What is home without a father,
and what is an ad without a circula-
tion? The Brand circulates; even
those who do not pay for it, read it.
Everybody most reads The Brand.
If you did not have time to be on
streets any last Saturday, you miss-
ed it. The large crowd of folks
from all around were here doing
their early Christmas shopping.
Some of the families came as far as
50 miles distant.
The Panhandle exhibit at Chicago
made a decided "hit" with the land
hungry folks of the East and North.
All credit is due the "Son of a
Gunn" who conceived the idea and
fired acioss the clear sky of the Pan-
handle the shot that was beard from
the Gulf to the Lakes and from Bos-
ton to Frisco.
The Brand will guarantee, when-
ever any of the merchants put on a
special sale and offer to sell goads
at reduced prices, that the sale is
bona fide. Watch The Brand for
special sales and read the advertise-
ments every week. You will save
money enough in the course of a
year to buy an extra suit.
McNamara'8 Confession.
For many months after the alleged
kidnapping of the McNamaras by
Detective Burns, the people of the
nation were puzzled and certainly
curious to know all the circumstances
of the famous man hunt and their
successful capture. The self-told
story by Burns clears up the mistery
and justifies him and his associates
in tbeir seeming unwarranted rough
handling of the culprits, and the
state of California in forcing the
prosecution. Burns was certain in
his charges and had woven a verita-
ble fish net of evidence against the
accused. They knew it, the attor-
neys for the defense knew all the
facts. Hence, the forced confession,
said to be made to save the life of
the brother. We are of the opinion
that the orders to which the Mc-
Namaras belonged had some band in
the decision to make a clean breast
of the whole matter, thus clearing
the union labor forces of any criminal
knowledge of the deed and making
the destruction of the Times build-
ing, the death of the 21 men and the
explosion at the iron works, an in-
dividual matter. This was a wise
step on the part of the various
unions. They do not favor violence
nor harbor law violators, therefore,
when it became evident that the
state would prove the charges in
open court, they did the right thing
to deliver the culprits and let the
law of the land take its course and

punishment be meted out to the
guilty onee. If the different labor
unions should endorse the action and
conduct of these dynamiters, the
people would turn against organized
labor and the state and national
governments would be forced to in-
vestigate their methods and would
likely break up their orders as un-
lawful organisations. The Brand
believes every craft and trade has a
right to organise for mutual protec-
tion and advanototoaft, but there are
jar better ways to accomplish their
ends than by the force of dynamite.
