Unit Has Dinner

ter were hosts to the officers and
ladies of the newly-activated 2d
Missile Battalion 77th Artillery at
a dinner held at the Killeen Bae
Officers Open Mess Saturday
evening.
The dinner marked the first so
cial event of the battalion. Guests

silver bowl from Mrs. Williams N. Gillmore wife of the III
Corps and Fort Hood commander as she was honored
Wednesday morning at a coffee at the Gillmores' quarters
at Fort Hood. At right is Mrs. William W. Young wife of
the Fort Hood Post Engineer and Chairman of Volunteer
Service Groups Fort Hood Unit ARC. More than 25 ladies
of the post members of the Fort Hood ARC Volunteers were
presented to bid farewell to Mrs. Snell who has worked
closely with the Fort Hood Red Cross ladies for the more than
eight years she has been executive director of the Bell County
chapter. Mrs. Snell is to leave Temple later this month to join
her husband William an Albuquerque N.M. realtor. In taking
leave of the Fort Hood Volunteers Mrs. Snell spoke of the group
as "one of the most active and most cooperative" of all those
with which she has worked. Mr. Frank Yates executive di
rector of the Laredo chapter will succeed Mrs. Snell at Temple.

Girl Scout News

The Fort Hood Girl Scout As
sociation honored one of its mem
ber^ Mrs. Norman L. Weir
Wednesday afternoon at a tea
served in the VIP Room of the
Officer's Club. Approximately
50 ladies gathered to say "Good
bye and thanks for a job well
done." Mrs. Weir has served as
Camp Director and Trainer for
the past four years. She has given
so generously and unselfishly of
her time and she will be great
ly missed both by the girls and
by the Association. Mrs. Weir is
leaving Fort Hood soon with her
husband Major Norman L. Weir
who is leaving Fort Hood with
Fourth Armored Division. Mem
bers of the Kaybee Heights and
Killeen Girl Scout Associations
were also guests at the tea as
was Mrs. Jan Dupape from the
Waco Council. Punch and pastries
were served from a very prettily
decorated table the theme being
carried out with the Girl Scout
Colors.
Mrs. Anthony F. Kleitz Chair
man of the Association for the
past year commented and praised
Mrs. Weir for all the many
things she has done for the
Scouts of Fort Hood and the sur
rounding areas. She introduced
Mrs. W. N. Gillmore wife of
the Commanding General of Fort
Hood who is leaving soon for a
new assignment and Mrs. Roland
del Mar wife of Brig General
del Mar who departs soon for
Germany with the 4th AD. She
introduced Mrs. Paul Koerner
the new Neighborhood Chairman
and Mrs. Frank Kahn Vice
Chairman for the coming year.
Mrs. Kleitz 'presented Mrs
Weir with a beautiful silver meat
tray on behalf of the Girl Scout
Association and Mrs. James Tate
of Killeen showed the apprecia
tion of the Killeen Girl Scouts for
Mrs. Weir assistance by present
ing her with a lovely gift. As a
final gesture a beautiful scroll
very cleverly inscribed to Mrs.
Weir was signed by each of the
guests and presented to her.
There will be a meeting at the
Girl Scout House on Wednesday
August 21 at 9:30 a.m. for every-

Mrs. Paul Goodman wife of the
Commanding Officer of the 319th
Military Intelligence Battalion en
tertained the officers' wives of
the battalion and its associate
units at a mid-morning coffee on
the seventh of August. Taking full
advantage of the clear Texas sky
the group met at the Officers'
Club swimming pool..
As this was the first gather
ing for the ladies since the
military intelligence units ar
rived from Ft Meade and Ft
Bragg nominating commit
tees were designated and an
election of officers was plan
ned for the next meeting.
