Ulchila r.-iiK Feb. 17 Those or
or group who are carrying news to
the white folks on the hill should
confine tremselves to telling the truth.
It is sa!d that they have impressed
the "whl'' folks that the Colored peo-
ple in the "flat" had raised $1000 and
employed a lawyer to free young
Ray. From this story (the. white
people) inferred that the better
clement ef Negroes are up-hnlding
lawlessness and condoning .rdme.

Sund) at 3.30 p. m. the Wichita
Tbeatre was filled to standing room
to witness the program of the C. M.
tl. Church under the direction of Mrs.
3. H. Robinson our local music
teacher. Owing to the fact that the
first flool was reserved for whites.
the audience was about ' fifty-fifty.'
The rendering of the program was a
treat to aU present. Each number
was followed with long and vocif-
erous rpplauds. There was no ad-
miMlon fee but a free will offering
was taken after the program which
amounted to $178.00. The use of th?
Opera House for this occasion was
complimentary of the management
for which Rev. McPhcrson and his
members feel gratefully indebted

Store is back on the job again after
spending a week with her mother ir

Corglcana Feb. 17 Sunday was i
very beautiful day. Springtime is
asserting itself ahead of time. ' Ser
vices were good at all the churches
with good attendance. Mr. Mose
Carter is very sick. Prof. H. E. Es-
tcile of Brenham was in Kerens last
week doing his work for this country
Was guest of Mr. and Mrs. A. H.
Hodgcspeth. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace
Holland of Kerens were dn the city.
Mr. Robert Slade was here from
Korens. Mrs. Ben Lowe visited in
Dallas last week. Mr. P. S. Walker
was here from Powell and stated
ttiat his daughter Miss Walker had
to resign her school work for' this
term because the climate where she
was teaching was too low and some
what impaired her health. Mrs. Car-
vln of Terre.ll is visiting Mrs. H. E
Williams. Mrs. Willie Henry of Ker
ens has been very sick. Mrs. A. H
Hodgcspeth is here on account of
the illness of her mother. Mrs. L. M
Foster. Rumor has it that Mr. Bias
Holman was shot and stabbed. The
body of this gentleman was buried-
under tthe auspices of the Odd Fel-
lows. Mr. Gee Mr. S. J. Chestnut
and Mr. G. W. Johnson accompanied
the remains to Froer!'Ock. Under-
taker W. W. McKinney had charge
of it. We are very sorry to learn
that a petition was signed here that
the people of this place would guar-
antee the mana. er of the new Thea-
ter a full house if he would bar the
Colored people but we can't -blame
the other fellow because some of our
people don't know how . to deport
themselves at places of this and sim-
ilar kinds. Really it makes It very
hard for those of the race who are
flghtfng for equal rlghte. Some ol
our people 'p to theatres here and
from th t-'ji rway on up looks like
hog pen. They put their feet and
legs across the seats and tear them
up spit on the floors talk so very
loud and boistrous using profane
language respecting not even their
relatives which m so disgusting to
us let alone members of the other
race. Some of our younger set stop
school In very low grades and fre-
quent theatres and can't hardly spell
well which they do aloud whenever
reading is . flashed on the per len
which anoys every one nr-tr. Thue
who sit on the ront seats hau?
ihelr feet across the banisters. Brys
and girls now all this is becuse our
people need teaching. This Is very
ugly. So you see it is not color al-
together that keeps the Negro down.
It is bad behavior conduct and man-
ners too. It is not the theatre that
ruin the Negro youth he ruins the
theatre. Some of our boys and girls
and men enter such places without
a bath dirty overalls and work cloth-
es on. Now do we call conditions
of this kind favorable? Some of our
nretty girls who are lovely enough
to mpke queens leave their work
right to the show they come In flop-
ping without being braced up in
any way. Now lets deport ourselves
bctt'r; when we do this as a whole
we wont have to feel embarrassed
on account of having a petition sign-
ed to bar us from places that we
could have a right to go if we wished
to. Wake up so long as things like
this continue just so long we will
be- pushed back. If our people would
read the Express every week they
would learn what is gains on anions
us and too they would know just
how their folk deported themselves In
public.
