mid-session concert Feb. 23. All are
cordially invited. Music will be fur-

Mrs. S. L. Rodgers has returned from
Paul Qulnn College where she vis
ited her son. Rev. M. Jones and Prof
M. L. Peel spent a few hours inwho died several months ago. The

he had worked for 23 years closed to
allow the employees to attend the
funeral. Rev. A. N. Wordlow of Bon-
ham who pastors at Paris has accept-
ed the rastorate of New. Hope Bap-

stant Mr. Silas Johnson one of our
leading young men an alumnus of
Fred Douglass High School has re-
turned from Prairie View auto and
mechanical school as a full fledged

Mexico is in the city visiting rel-
atives. Mrs. B. C. Holland Parish
an old Calvert citizen passed away
Sunday at 7 a. m. In the city of
Houston and her remains will be
shipped to this otty for burial. She
was born and raised in the city where
she has a host of friends and rel-
atives. The citizens of Calvert met
at the residence of Mrs. P. Gibson
and marched to the residence of Miss
Ella 1'ooley and ' stormed her with
about $20 worth of groceries. Bethel
Baptist ' Church of which she is a
member and Rev. M. L. Covington
pastor is tho originator of this splen-
did move.

Mr. Freeman Salter Mr. Wm. Shep-
pard and Mr. Hal Salter made some
needed repairs at the school campus
Tuesday.' The school has enrolled
some S'jcty pupils and now thinking
of adding or putting on the second
teacher in case they can find one
who can play music. Mrs. Ruth Pick-
ard and sons were in Wednesday and
bought food stuff for their stock.
Sunday School was lively Sunday;
much interest was manifested. The
superintendent Is doing all in his

Powers is now teaching at Beale

Rachel Powers Is at Mt. Zion both
assistant teachers. Mr. P. A. Hunter

Spring Hill. Calvert Public School
is going over the top this year. En-
rollment is past the 500 mark. Mr.
Scott our janitor deserves credit fot
his services. Several visitors graced
our campus this week. Among them
were: Revs. Harrold and Covington
and Prof. Day. Prof. Day delivered
a very timely address to the High
School Department and everyone went
away feeling proud of his presence.

grand success. Mrs! W. M. Alex-
ander is confined to her bed. The
rainbow wedding given at Bethel
Church under the auspices of the Y.
W. A. was quite commendable. Each
young lady was at ber best The
Master of Ceremonies stated that
when you hear of anything at Bethel
come for it is guaranteed to be good.
Mr. McGinnis of Itasca is here visit-
ing his daughter. The Y. W. A. cor-
dially invites all who will to attend
their meetings each Tuesday nght
at 8 o'clock. The Y. W.' A. had a
splendid program Sunday evening.

Terrell Feb. 24. There have been
three weeks since we have had a
paper. Hope this wont happen again.
We had a nice rain on the 18th which
was much needed also a light freeze
that damaged lots of fruit. Rev. T.
W. Daily P. C. of Bethlehem Baptist
Church made a business trip to Pal-
estine a few days. He is officially
connected with the Colored Bank of
that place. Mrs. I ount McRumn who
was very sick hearing of the death
of her sister who was an inmate
the asylum died' In a very few n"
ments. Her sister's body was smt
to Sulphur Springs for burial. While
hers was entered at the Terrell Cem-
etery. She left a husband two sons
three daughters to survive her. Fun-
eral services were held at the A. M.

are sick this week. The Terrell Col-
ored Sanitarium had it's epening

E. Calvin made a missionary trip to
Trinidad stopping enroute home at
Corslcana. She reports a good meet-
ing. Revs. Bell and Mrs. Yarbrough
spent the week in Dallas attending
the National Bishops' Council. Mr.
J. H. Johnson who went to Dallas In
December 1920 to be operated upon
for appendicitis b back home and is
out of danger. All the people In Ter-
rell are not good. Two ' race men
working at the compress met In pas-
sage. Each refused to move for the
other to pass. One laid aside his
truck reached for his knife stabbed
His only excuse was that he got up
on the wrong side of the bed. Pa-
rents keep your boys off the public
thoroughfares on Sunday with their
marble games and there will be a
chance for some to think they have
had home training. It is a disgrace
and a public nuisance also a train-
ing camp for the county farms. Jails
and penitentiary. Hereafter I will
try to have the Express every Sat-
urday at the Wesley's Studio. Be

Star Baptist Church filled his reg-
ular appointment Sunday. Mrs. Ma-
lissa Griffin accompanied by her hus-
band Mr. J. G. Griffin and D. Simms
went to Dallas iFcb. 16. where Mrs.
GrlBln underwent an operation at the
St. Paul Sanitarium. At this writing
she Is getting along nicely. Mr.
Green Lacy and Louvenia Fuller were
quietly married last week. Rev.
Brown officiated. A mass meeting ot
the citizens of the town and all the
churches met at the C. M. E. Church
Friday night. The cemetery organi-

Waco Feb. 24. I sent the little
boys out Saturday with the Express
and when they returned they made
the following BtatemenU "The people
say they ain't going to pay no dime
for that paper." We need more men
real men like Rev. E. H. Baker who
when asked to patronize the Dallas
Express said "Yes you can deliver
it to 1502 N. 7th. St. Bro. Garrett."
That's the kind of men it takes not
only to make a dime paper go that
is worth a dollar but anything else
that's worth while. You can make a
race with men like Rev. Hooker for
ho and other farsighted ministers
understand that the Dallas Express
Is one though but one a mighty arm
in the bulwark of civilization for the
race. Bro. M. W. Stephens pastor of
Mount Zion Church takes the paper
so cheerfully. Does not the good
book tell us "Blessed is the cheerful
giver and that the liberal soul shall
be made fat?" I like to forgot to
state that after the boys reported.

Mt- Zion is progressing nicely un-
der the leadership of Rev. M. W.
Stephens. The revival of 28 days
resulted in one conversion and 7 ac-

A very interesting program was ren-
dered Valentine night under the di-
rection of Mrs. K. W. McMillan of St-
James M. E. Church. Bro. Stephens

Beasley a sister of Mrs. B. Benson
died in the home of her sister Sat-
urday. She had been 111 for some
time. Mrs. M. W. Owens of Kentucky
Street is suffering with rheumatism.
Mrs. Cecilia Cobb has just returned
from Provident Sanitarium where she
underwent an operation. Sister Cobb
is doing nicely. Mrs. C. B. Olline
who is also ill C. B. Jr.. and sister
are at their aunt's and uncle's Mr.
and Mrs. Stephen Cobb. Mrs. Wm.

Hemphill Feb. 24. Macedonia Bap-
tist Church had regular pastorial
services Sunday and Sunday night
with Rev. M. Daniels pastor in the
pulpit. Our church owed some $200
or more and one effort of him on the
Fifth Sunday of January last $100
of the debt was paid off. Rev. Dnn-
iels accepted the pastorato In Oct.
last preached his first sermon as
such on the second Sunday in Jan.
and on the fifth gave us Ws services
with the above results. Yesterday
and last night's collection amounted
to $41.50. There have been only four
additions to the church. Of course
we have among us sinners "to let"
but they all belong to the church.

Sunday instant The amount of mon
ey raised by the majority of the
workers was far beyond their assess-
ments. Mrs. Pearl Spencer headed
the leading role with .$125.90 while
Mrs. Jerry Moore was second with
$101.05. With this and the reports
from the other capta-'ns made a total
for six weeks rally $1466.49. Rev.
L. M. Sanders pastor thinks the wo
men did excellent and stated that
the men's rally would start last Sun-
day the 20th and run six weeks
and that he hoped the men would do
better. The Bell County Burial As-
sociation (for Colored people) owned
and enrolled by Colored people has
been set up and is gaining a suc
cessful head-way. Tbe association is
