Freedmmitown was lu a ferment of
excltemeut yesterday. Mr. 11. F. Lucy
has suftered considerable loss for some
time past from depredations com-
mitted by petty thieves upou his or
chard aud garden and recently placed
a negro boy named George Alleu to
watch and try to capture the scamps.
Early yesterday morning George
espied a couple of nieu lu the peach
orVhard aud gave chase. Finding that
they were about to get away he tired
but without ehVt. He nevertheless
kept up the pursuit and succeeded In
running one of them -a white man
named Houck down and started with
him to theSheritl's ofllce. On the route
he was met by six or eight negroes
with guns who forced him to release
his prisoner. George was arrested for
firing the gun but no one appearing
against him he wa released and a
warrant issued for the arrcet of Houck.
The warrant was served and Houck
placed In Jail to await an examination.
The otUceri are after the negroes who
made the rescue with good prospect
of bagging the whole eutlre lot.

A Worst or Advice lo Travelers.
The M Issourl Kansas and Tcxat railway
has become so well kuowu to the people of
Texas a one of the Uncut and moat com-

should say ought lu Its praise. Yet we can
not evor get back rroin a trie over Ibis hue
without Saying souietliliig In praise of the
management who dtways seem to be striv-
ing to make their patrons comfortable while
traveling over their road. The track Is al-
ways In the best posalblo condition and

yards aheud they noticed an ox-carl.
