Clarksville Tenn. says two Irishmeu
while on a uruiiKcn spree yesieruay
morning had a quarrel with a negro
who was llually attacked with a knife
and fled. At about 2 o'clock the ne-
groes attacked the Irishmen who were
forced to take refuge in a grocery store
whence they Wrre taken by the police
to the station for safety. Last uight
the negroes assailed the grocery ' with
short pistols and nearly demolished
several houses occupied by Irish fami-
lies In the neighborhood. A mob in
the meantime battered down the door
of the calaboose and liberated the
Irishmen and the prisoners generally.
The disturbance is quieted and no fear

nn eloquent and impressive sermon by
Bishop Kavauaugh this morning Dr.
Clark of tiavannah Georgia pre-
sented the case of the Wesley Monu-
mental Church now being erected in
Savannah and fifteen hundred dollars
was taken up. The Bishops of the
Methodist Episcopal Church Lave also
given Dr. Clark autograph letters cer-
tifying their sympathy with this
project of the Methodist Episcopal
Chinch South.

Washington July 13i Advices re-
ceived at tho Navy Department last
evening announce that the Powhottau
arrived at Aspinwall oa the 2Uth of

Omaha had not reached Panama at

Arlca Peru. June 13th; officers and
crew all well.
A letter has been received from Mc-
Orew saying ho has made no charges
against Chief Clerk Holt of the Inter-
nal Revenue Bureau lu conneollon
with the whisky frauds. No Informa-

ment to-day from any quarter on that
