District court at a witness and he is now in
the oounty Jail awaiting tbe arrival of the
proper officer to return him to Waxabacie.
About two months ago Morgan Harris a
while man it alleged to have poisoned a well
on the premises nf Mr. Lamp Paco at Pal
mer Harris and Buck Smith were accused
of having stolen a beef from Jcasa Smith
and Lamp Pace's wife wat a witness
against them. Buck Smith gave bond but
Morgan Harris wat confined iu jau two
months before he secured bond and his en-
mity for tho Pace family is alleged to have
prompted him to attempt to poison them
by throwin j threo small bottles of strychnine
in the well. A man en route to Dallas
watorod his horse from the well and the
animal died from the cll'eot This made t' b
people aware of the condition of the water
and no one was harmed. Tho water wst
bailed out and the wull thoroughly purified.
The bottles that had contained the strychnine
were found in tbe woll and bore the mine cf
a man doing business at Ennis. This gentle
man said he had sold ine ootiiesoi sirycnnine
to Morgan Harriv and a party ot citizens
began a search for him to secure
his erret This Party had
called at Wm. Thomas' (this' attached wit
ness) bouse and learned irom mm mat iiarna
bad been there and sent him (Thomas) to a

Wft there. Harris was sooa after arrested
but escaped whilo bubig cnveyed to Waxa-
bachie Jail and ts still at large soon atter

track of the Texat Central railroad where it
is presumed he had been placed by
hir. assailants for a 1 train to
over him. The authontiet began

alarmed tor the safety of hit life at the bandt
of bit old attaiants and that Barnes offered
him $1A to leave the country and not appear
