Louis-Conn Bout
Favor Challenger
GREENWOOD LAKE. N.
(CP* — Billy Conn's backers are
just a wee bit sad today because
they didn't put their thoughts
into cash a few months ago.
Conn was a .'t-to-i under-
do}; several weeks liuek, but
the Pittsburgh Kid has been
so impressive in training
that the odds are shrinking
at ail alarming rate. due
writer who visited Billy's
camp at Greenwood
New Jersey, today
predicted that Louis
be no better than a 9 to 5
favorite when the two men
crawl through the ropes a
week from tonight.
One letting agent willing to
wager $100,000 on Conn, passed
up odds of ]3-to-5 because he
thought they would go higher.
Today he tried to land the same
odds and found they had been cut
to 2 to 1.
Three well - known personal-
ties in the fight gaifte Jack
Kearns, Mickey Walk-dL-'and Ted
Broadribb — climbed on the
Conn wagon today. Kearns, for-
mer manager of Jack Dempsey,
says: "Louis looks like an old
man. and Conn will win with
ease."
Walker, former middleweight
king, and Broadribb. manager of
Tommy Fair, agreed Conn's
youth would mean the differ-
ence.

In Texas League
But Retain Lead
DALLAS (UPI — Ft. Worth's
lease on first place in the Texas
League is a half-game lighter
today, but it still looks good for
a long term.

at Khrevepmf, while Dallas
was downing the Shippers at
Beaumont.
The Cats started strong, hand-
ing the Sports a zero in the 7-
inning curtain-raiser. The final
score was (i to 0 with A1 Zachary
notching the win. In the second
: game, however. Williard Hams-
dell, who hit a homer in the
third inning, was lieaten, 4 to 2.
Dallas coasted as Bob Hogue
held Beaumont to seven scat-
tered safeties all singles — win-
ning (> to 0. At San Antonio, the
Padres shaded Tulsa in a slow
game 2 to 1. and at Houston, the
Buffs topped Oklahoma City's
eight-place Indians :i to 1.
