Coroner's Jury Finds
Girl's Deafh Is Due
To Abortion Attempt
CHICAGO, March 19 —UP—A
coroner's jury which ruled that
death'of a young Dallas telephone
operator was caused by an at-
tempted abortion • commended
that two men be held to the grand
jury and one of them be charged
with murder.
The jury deliberated 15 minutes
yesterday before returning its in-
quest verdict in the death of Ozella
Skains, 24, the Dallas telephopf
worker who came to Chicago
March 4 on a leave of absence
from her job.
Her body was found on a street
parkway in suburban Oak Park
March 9. Dr. Jerry Kearnes, cor-
oner's pathologist, said Miss Skains
died from ail air embolism suf-
fered in the abortion attempt.
The jury recommend that John
Cioetschel, 2B. a chiropractor who
said he was licensed, and George
Malek, a friend of the girl, be held
as accessories.
Officers said the chiropractor
told them he was with Miss Skains
until 11 p.m. the night before her
body was found and that he gave
her a treatment when she com-
plained of back pains. lie said he
was driving her back to her hotel,
when she asked to be let out of
the automobile because she felt
ill and wanted to walk the rest of
the way.

Charges After Fight
ENID, Okla., March 19—UP—A
I former Enid, Okla., man stationed
j in Texas at the Corpus Christi
Naval Air Station faced charges
here Friday of assault with a dead-
ly weapon.
Authorities charged the sailor,
Francis Eugene Spincer, 32, after
a fight which grew out of an all-
night poker and dice session. Po-
lice said Walter Collins of Enid
was stabbed early Wednesday.
Spincer came to Enid Tuesday
011 a routine flight from Corpus
Christi. He and Collins participated
in the all-night gambling party,
which ended in a scuffle over
cheating allegations, police said.

To Wife's Bedside
Evangelist Homer Hailey, who
has been conducting a gOsp'M meet-
ing here at the Church of Christ.
4th and Elm Streets, received word
Thursday afternoon of critical ill-
ness of his wife at their home in
Tampa, Fla. He left immediately
by plane.
Frank Pack of Abilene will con-
tinue the meeting, with services
daily at 10 a.m. and 7:30 and the
closing services on Sunday, J. T.
Marlin, minister of the church an-
nounced.
"This meeting has l oen one of
unusual interest, marked by large
crowds at the day and evening ser-
vices," he said, "and we anticipate
large crowds for the final days."

Will Get Food
AUSTIN, March 19 —UP Food
will be shipped to one of 12 drouth-
stricken West Texas c i :' ,es in an
expansion of aid.
Gov. Allan Shivers announced
Thursday 150 cases of food, bor-
rowed from the school lunch pro-
gram by the state welfare depart-
ment, would be sent to Dawson
county.
A $3,000,000 road improvement
program, aimed at providing jobs
in the hard-hit region, was an-
nounced earlier by Shivers. Bids
were taken Tuesday on the first, j
$410,000 in projects in Dawson,!
Dickens and Terry counties.
Shivers also announced Thursday
there had been an "indication
from the U.S. Department of Agri-
culture that some linancial help
might be given to the State Soil
Conservation Service for wind
erosion control work in the coun-
ties.
