hotel lookiug vory bright and fresh after his
recent trip to the southwest in company with
Sir. Gould Air. Sloan and othor engoutlem
interested in southwestern railways.
"Youaro carrying the Western Union
wiros aro you not towards Moxico!" asked
tho reporter.
"Yes towards Mexico and towards tho
Pacific; thero will be about 1200 miles of
railway and the same length of telegraph
wire laid during tho coming yoar."
"With what points to the eastward will
these lines bo directly connected t"
"Thoy will centro at St. Louis ; but they
will be connocted with New Orleans through
Shrevcport and this connection will be com-
pleted before the close of tha present year."
"Will your now telegraph lines communi-
cate directly with Moxico?"
"Yos thoy will and they do. The cables
laid by Colonel Scrymsor from Browncvillo
to Vera Cruz touching at Tampico have
just put tho Western Union system in con-
nection with tho whole Mexican telegraphic
system which is owned by tbo Mexican gov-
ernment. This sytem oxtonds over about
4000 miles and all parts of Moxico over
which it extends are now in tolegraphic com-
