Yesterday morning we announced the
fact of the organisation of a company in
this city for the purpose of manufacturing
railroad cars wagons farming implements
etc. This is most emphatically a step in
the right direction and it is to be hoped
that this is but the beginning ot a move-
ment whicli before we writs another fare
well to the old year will have spread all
through this city the great railway centre
ofthis section of Texas. An interior town
without manufacturing indastries can
never amount to much. Seaports may
Xourisli possibly to a certain extent with-
out them but even these seek to possess
them at as early u moment as passible.
Boston is full ef tliem the same is true if
New Yerk and Philadelphia and Baltimore.
New Orleans is fully awake to the great
necessity of their existenco within her
limits. There is every reai'.n why they
should be pat into operation at Dallas.
Around ns grows the cotton and are raised
tho sheep which furnish immediately to
hand the raw material recpiired for all
sorts of clothing and the othor products
which we are now importing from distant
points at heavy cost. Here is timber in
immense quantity and of every variety to
eaahle as to manufacture the different agri-
cultural implements made therefrom cars
wnijnns carriages furniture etc. etc. The
otie tiling needed the basis of the success
of manufacturing is fuel. In the several
counties about us lies coal and we believe
il lo be in exhaustless amount. These
mines will be developed and at
remunerative figures just so soon
us tne railways pass through or near
enough to the region to permit
its transporlation to a desired locality
where the other reiiiisi(es of raw material
etc.. can be supplied nt low figures. Beads
nrc hei n rapidly pushed in the right diici
lion to prof'urelhcse black diamonds for us
nt'a cost not to exceed nay per ton.iind ut
this price we can compete with any manu-
fcicturing point distant like SI I.ouis ot
other place from the basis of the original
product. Our people as a rule have but
nice money to put into side
investments as in the rush whicl
has been upon us every dollar they
possessed was required lo lake due care of
or to'cxteud the ir own particular business
Hence capital alone is needed. Wo have
all tlic other desiderata. We must look lo
the North or the liast or the West for tlti;

little who builds our railways Mr. (iouhl
or Mr Smith or Mr. .Tones; the roads arc
with us and are developing our trade
f icililating tho operations of our citizens In
all conceivable manner f-'o il is with f.u to-
r cs wo should care as little where the
money conies from if we have it not our
selves as we do about the color of the eyes
r tlic stature ol the laborer; who perlorins

fnh our advantages. how best
U Induce capitalists to seriously look
into our wauls is a ijuestion of much
concern to us all. The newspapers lave
done much very much to preach our

from every section of the broad land come 1
the same reports of the nrosneritv

year. If people will take the oc-
casion to get out of debt avoid extrava-
gance nnel livo within their means another
year with full crops will witness a still lar-
ger advance in every department of trade
and labor. The trouble heretofore has been
that prosperity has brought with it. the
spirit of speculation and multitudes of
men in their hurry to bo rich were not
content with ordinary and snre methods.
Business is so interwoven that the mistakes
thus made by tho few restless venturesome
men found in every community endanger
the peace and prosperity of ull. It may be
a very old-fogy notion but this haste to be
