Colorado Springs, July 27.—
Texaa holds the record aa the
state contributing the greatest
number of tourists to Colorado
Springs, Manitou and the Pikes
Peak region. At every hotel and
resort the number of Texans reg-
istered outnumbers those from
every other state. Every day
adds its number to the large num-
ber of residents of the Lone Star
state already here. At the Cliff
House in Manitou fifteen Texans
weree registered in three days.
The same holds true of every
othell hotel.
After a trip full of excitement

Stark. They had motored
through Texas and into this state
in their spacious touring car,
camping out on the way. After
seeing the various sights around
Colorado Springs, they will con-

parts of the Rocky Mountains.

Colorado Springs, July 29,1910
—Scientific theories as to the age
of the earth may be affected by
the finding of the skull of a pre-
historic man by Captain W. H.
Rogers of Manitou. The find war
made about a year ago in a stone
quarry near San Antonio, Texas,
but announcement was made by
Captain Rogers only a few days
ago. Scientists who have been
studying the specimen have stat-
ed that it may be a million years
old. The skull was found under
a layer of solid limestone 14 feet
thick, where in" a crevice were the
bodies of three men in a sitting
posture after the manner of the
Cliff Dweller mummies. Beside
each lay a stone hatchet, a stone
mug and a bone knife. A slight
dust over the body loins of the
skeletons showed where rude
breech cloths had laid; this being
the only covering discernible,
The skull was that of an adult,
presumably about 35 years of
age. Below the skeletons, the
limestone was more than 100 feet
thick, showing that the bodies
had been interred in a crevice
and that afterward s the upper
crust of limestone had formed
The instruments found were such
as to indicate that the men were
of the stone age, while the skull
resembles that of the Indian of
the higher type. Captain Rogers
is preparing a monograph on the
subject.

sightseeing, the party left for
Denver where they will remain
until the homeward journey.
