Says the Macon News: "We
read where a 16-year old Geor-
gia boy is raising 116 bushels of
corn to the acre, and when we
think of those other 16-year-old
Georgia boys who are trying to
raise skimpy moustaches on one
inch of upper lip, we feel like
going out and tearing down a
house or something else very
fierce." Is it possible that the
spirit of these war times is also
making houses fierce?—Beau-
mont Journal.
The Macon contemporary
might just as logically have
surmised that the 16-year-old
Georgian who raised 116 bush-
els of corn on a single acre was
not one of that crowd who sur-
rounded the home of the cour-
ageous Governor of Georgia and
threatened him with injury be-
cause he dared to defy them in
defense of his conscience and his
constitutional rights. — State
Press.
Sure not, for those mob lead-
ers raise nothing but—
Frank Holt, the Texan who
shot J. P. Morgan a few days
ago, and w ho also acknowledged
to placing the bomb in the nat-
ional capitol at Washington,
committed suicide in the jail at
Glencove, N. Y. Tuesday night,
by shooting himself through the
head. And thus the incident is
closed.
, Old Vic Huerta refused to
salute our flag when he was in
Mexico but when he got into
Uncle Sam's hands at El Paso he
tried to taffy the old gent by de-
claring that a certain young lady
of El Paso is the most beautiful
woman he has ever seen, either
in the United States, Mexico or
France. Of course we have the
most beautiful women in the
world, but don't let that old sin-
ner get off in any such manner.
To set an ordinary column of
type requires 10,000 pieces of
type.' There are seven positions
in which each letter may be
placed, and there are over 70,
chances to make transpositions.
In the sentence "To be, or not
to be." by transposition alone, it
is possible to make 5,759,022 er-
rors. After reading the above
statement from a printers'
magazine, do you wonder why
you sometimes see an error in
the newspaper?—Palmer Rust-
ler.
It's no use. The dear people
simply will not permit them-
selves to be denied their right to
make merry over typographical
errors. They don't know and
don't care how easy it is to
make a perfectly respectable
utteance show up in the form of
a perfectly outrageous expres-
sion on the printed page. They
want to laugh when they see
such an error, and, ding them,
they simply will laugh! Con-
sider the unfortunate who wrote
of the departing bride that "She
smiled to the group like a peri
or an elf," and whose handwrit-
ing was so bad the printer made
him say "She smelled to the
groom like a pie on a shelf."—

The Prairie Hill News, one of
the best little papers that comes
to this office, recently missed an
issue because of a broken press
that had to be sent to Waco for
repairs. But the News came
out on time the next week.
Such accidents will happen and
we sympathize with our neigh-
bor. The News has entered a
kick against the postoftice de-
partment for abolishing one of
the rural routes out of Mt. Calm
that served a number of Prairie
Hill citizens, and charges it up
to jealousy on the part of the
people of Mt. Calm. Uncle Sam
should not stand for anything
like that and if the people of
Prairie Hill get real busy the
route will no doubt be re-estab-
lished.

GRAPHIC ART
HAS AGAIN BEEN REVOLU-
TIONIZED BY HENRY
EDWARD BYRNE, PRES-
IDENT OF THE TYLER
COM31ERCIA.L COL-
LEGE. OF TYLER.
TEXAS.
Some seventeen years ago, he
invented a system a Shorthand
known as the Byrne Simplified.
This system possessed such
wonderful advantages that sev-
en large editions of the book
have been printed and there
are now over 30,000 writers of
this famous system. The sys-
tem was controlled in this sec-
tion by the Tyler Commercial
College and it did much toward
making it the largest business
training school in America.
Recently Prof. Byrne applied the
principles of this Shorthand sys-
tem to the typewriter using the
regular typewriter that is found
in the ordinary business office,
using the same type, but print-
ing the characters in plain type
instead of using croked marks
made with the pencil. This
system is called Stenotypewrit-
ing. The Byrne Simplified
Shorthand was mastered in half
the time required of other sys-
tems, and Stenotypewriting is
mastered in almost a month less
time than the Byrne Short-
hand. It can be written at a
higher rate of speed than Short-
hand, can te read like" print be-
cause it is print and is so simple'
that a child can learn it, so thor-
ough and complete that it will
record anything in the English
language. It is absolutely legi-
ble; there is no guess work in
the reading. It is capable of
taking the most rapid speakers;
it is truly the stenographic
marvel of the age. It not only
means a saving of much time Y.
and expense to those who desire
to become efficient stenograph-
iers, but it means better steno-f

The Thornton Hustler has
been revived after sleeping for
several months, and Joe House,
formerly with the Groesbeck
Journal, is at the helm, which
means that the Hustler is going
to take its place among the first
class, live country papers of the
state. Joe has been in the news-
paper game all his life, is a first
class printer, versatile writer,
