now prepared alter tying a small
ball of wool in. fitch of .the lower
corners of the sack to pack or bale
the fleeces and hem I iiho all euro
to have the contents of each saek as
near of the eamcijnajity as possible;
the full blood merino is all bagged
by itself and the bal e marked .No.

nud is marked 2s'o. li. i'ormc'rly I
divided my wool into lour qualities
Vut having got rid of my coarser
' sheep and bred my tloeks up to a
high grade standard L now have
but three qualities and very little
of the third. .
When a suflieient number of flee-
ces have been shorn of the same
quality to fill a sack a man usod to
the work and it is easily learned
gets inside the wool is handed to
him ho lays the fleeces carefully in
tiers and then tramps all clown
tightly and compactly with his feet;
six seven or eight fleeces ordinarily
are enough for a tier and if put in
with care and well tramped from
42a to -150 lbs. of line wool can be
packed with case. The sack is then
let down small halls of refuse wool
aro tied in each of the upper cor-
ners the mouth is sewed up and
yon now have a handsome and con-
venient bale for handling and load'
ing and one which if the bagging
is strong and is kept dry you can
send to .New York or New Zealand
. for that matter confident your wool
will reach its distillation in good or-
der Tiud condition and that if placed
in tho right hands it will command
and bring its full and real valuo in
tho market ; for moro than that .we
cannot any of us well ask. Old
wool growers need not laugh at my
boing thus particular in thus do-
scribing so siniplo a mattor. I am
only writing for tho inexperienced
or new beginners and those .who
havo never prepared tho staple for
market.
Over and over again it should bo
born in mind that each sack Bhoukl
contain wool of the same quality;
a half a dozen coarse or indifferent
fleeces in n balo containing fine
wool will not escape tho lynx-eyed
samplers and brokers of the North-
ern cities who will endeavor to pur-
chase tho entire lot on tho merits of
tho poorer qualities he may discover.
Tho cotton planter does not cram
ordinaiy good ordinary low mid-
dling middling and all sorts into
tho samo balo or if he does he makes
a Uacss of it; so with tho wool grow-
er and if the latter finds in his clip
that he lias burry fleeces his better
plan is to bag .them by themselves

nt the manufactory tho fleeces all
tied up nro all overhauled haudled
and sampled ; yet I repeat it is pref-
erable to havo tho contents of each
pack of the same grade or quality
it is much better for tho producer in
tho kng run. It may hero be said
that each fleece should bo carefully
folded and tied and with flax or
hemp twine. Cotton twine howovor
strong docs not do at nil it adheres
to and tangles tho wool. Bales of
size I have mentioned are casilv
loaded on our ordinary road wagons
and if the driver has a good sheet
4t cover tho wool will reach a ship-
ping port in prime condition. BV
following the plan I have suggested
we- Texas wool growers can soon
remove any prcjudico w hich may be
raised against our staple and give
it a fair reputation in all the mar-
kets of tho world.
Wool has ruled and is still ruling
lower at the North than I anticipa-
ted at the break np of the war. I
thought it would advance I still
believe that it will improvo by the
tiino the new dip is well in market
the present heavy stocks of manu
fiicturcd goods aro cleared out and
tho value or gold settles upon some
firm and lasting basis. But w heth-
er the staple rules high or low we
jiroducers in .Texas may congratu-
late tmrselvcg that wc can crow-wool
cheaper than in any other part of
ine worm ana that aa long as there
is a demand for the raw material we
can supply and undersell the raisers
of any other region. Let us pnt it
tip and send it forward in marketa-
ble order and we need have no
fears.
While upon the subject of fchwp
and wool prmit me to offer a few
remarks in relation to the cab. In
my immediate neighborhood we are
all fighting this terror of the sheep-
fold with vigrr and determination
we have got it well nigh under and
before another year is over I Lope
to see the scourge entirely eradica-
ted Tiot only in tins vicinity but all
over Texas ; it should be done it
can be done and ia my Cocks it
latf be done. We are fighting it
iniinly with Ubacco. I Lave wcl

as I do that tobaeeo is benefl.-ial to

that it materially promotes the
growth of the wool I shall hereafter

iHiring the war and while tobac-
co was so dear as to put it out of the
power of tho poor wool producer to
purchase it wo were all compelled
to resort to lye limo and sulphur to
dip our sheep. This mixture al-
though it cheeked tho disease in a
measure was at tho same time most
hurtful to tho wool retarding its
growth eating up tho natural oil
rendering it harsh and dry and
making it tender whilo as I havo
said before a solution of tobacco has
directly n contrary effect. Wo need
not purchaso pure leaf tobacco; in
New Orleans an nrticlo can bo
bought which although it will not
bear inspection possesses the full
strength of tho weed which is all
we require and for half or less than
half the ordinaiy price I purchased
two hogsheads in that city in De-
cember last and allho'ugh I had to
pay heavily for hauling it up in
mid-winter moro than threo times
the usual freight it stood mo a lit-
tle loss than sixteen cents a pound
all charges paid. In ordinary limes
or when hauling up from tho coast
is low; it would not havo cost mo
moro than conts and that is
cheap enough. Wo can all afford to
dip and keep on dipping at such
rates. Let us dip.

termined to offer them to tho public and devole my
undividod attention to lung dioeasea. In truth I
was Jiext to forced to it for people would Bnid for
me fit r and near to ascertain whethor their cuees
were like mine.
For many yeorn in com unction with my principal
ofllci-in riiiladidihia I h;ivo boon making regular
profiimiul visittf to Now York Uudton Baltimore
and Pittsburgh.
For many years papt T have made as many a fivo
hundred examinations weekly wtih tho "Ke.ipirom-
eter." For such examinations my charge in three
dollars and itenables me to give each patient- the
true condition of his diseaae and 'tell him frankly
whothor he will got well.
The great reason why physicians do not enre Con-
sumption Is that they try to do too much; they givo
medicines to stop the cough to stop the night-sweats
hectic fever and by sodoiug they derange tho w hole
digcstlvn system locking up the accretions and
oventunlly tho patient dies.
Tho l'ulmonic Syrup is ono of the most valuable
medicines known. It Ja nutrient powerfully tonic
and healing in itself. It contains uo opium yot it
loosens the phlegm in the bronchial tubes and na-
ture throws it off with littlo exnrtion; one bottle fre-
quently cures an ordinary cold; but it will be well
tt n-t to tnke a doso of Schenck's Matidrako 1'ills to
eloanso the stomach. Tho Pulmonic Syrup is readily
digested and absorbed into tho blood to which it
imparts its healing properties. It is ouo of tho host
firopnratlonsof iron In use; ft is a powerful tonic of
tself; and when the Seaweed Touie dissolves the mu-
cus in the tdomarh and is curried off by the aid of
the Mandniko Pills a healthy flow of gastric juice
good appetite and a good digestion follow.
The Hoaweed Tonic is a rftimuhtnt and none other
is required when it is used. It it pure and pleasant
no bad effects like when using Bourbon Whisky
which disorders the stomach torpors tho liver locks
up all the secrotions turns tho blood into water
dropsy sets in and tho patient dies suddenly.
Bourbon Whinkoy is recommended now-a-dnys by
almost every physicjan. Many patients that vinit
my rooms both malo aud female aro stupefied with
this poison Tho relief is temporary. If they cough
they take a little Whiskey; if they feel weak and
freble. they tnke a littl Whieky : if they cannot
sleep they take a littlo Yhiky; and they go op la
ibis way requiring more oua more uuui mey are
MfiHted tin and Imacine tbev areffMlini? uVhIiv. Tho
stomach liverund digostivo powers aro completely
destroyed and they lose their appetite for food. No
one was evor cured of consumption by this process
where cavities have been formed in the lungs. A
littlo stimulant is frequently beneficial to consump-
tives such as pure Brandy or good Win in many
cases London Porter or Brown Stout in moderate
quantities; but Bourlwn Whisky hastens on instead
of ruring consumption.
The SEAWEED TONIC produces lasting results
thoroughly Invigorating the stomach and digestive
system anu onaimng u io eliminate ana mKe ir.io
healthy blood the food which may be used for that
purpose. It Is so wonderful In its effects that a wine

It is an admitted fact that the Mexican
Mustang Liuament performs more cures in
shorter timo on man and beast than any
article ever discovered. Familios livery-
men and planters should always have it on
hand. Quick and sure it certainly is. All
genuine is wrapped in steel-plate engrav-
ings bearing the signature of G. W. West-
brook Chemist and thejn'ra U.S. stamp
of Demas Barnes & Co. over the top.
An effort has been made to counterfeit it
with achoap stoneplate label. Look closely I

It is a most delightful HairDreeBing.
It eradicates scurf and dandruff.
It keeps the head cool and clean.
It makes the hair rich soft and glossy.
It prevents hair turning gray and falling
on.
It restorcshairupon prematurely bald heads
This is just what Lyon's Kathairon will
do. It is pretty it is cheap durable. It
is literally sold by the car-'oad and yet its
almost incredible demand is daily increas-
ing until there is hardly a e:untry store
that does not keep it ot a family that doca
not use it.
