ity. Justice Clifford was also continued by

murder wns committed Monday niuht in
Spartan county by a man named Hicks
(white) ana thirty years of age. Ho killed
bis wile flr.t shooting ber and then cutting
her throat. He then made desperate
attempts at suicide by cutting his own
throat inflicting dangerous wounds. The
allogtd motive was the infidelity of his
wile. He has tieen lodged in jtil.

day a picnic party had an. excursion to the

Sheriff Clemens of Kerrville county waa
returning from San Antonio with two priso-

. Mason May 13 Tbo up bound buck-
board was slopped last night about 9 o'clock
seven miles north of Rock Springs and the
mail bags rifljd of tbeir contents. The deed
was done by one can who stepped out of tbe
bushes and halted tbe driver at the
muzzle of a pistol. He was blacked
thoroughly aad wore a large handkerchief
over bis face. He asked the driver to look at
bim close and say if he would know bim if
he saw him iigain. The driver said be would
not. There were a number of registered
packages in tbe mail but the value of them
it unknown.

cial condition of this McLennan county
found sixteon thousand dollars cash in the
treasury not a dollar of debt outstanding

and county taxes only fifteen cents on tha

boy for a villainous crime plead
guilty and was assessed five years in the
penitentiary.
The trial of J. P. Lseper the Denison
merchant on a charge of insanity is pro
grtsdng in the county court. Tho evidence
so fur H rory strong nguinst him. His side of
the cate has not yet been beard. The trial
will probably occupy all ot this week. The
court room is crowued and consideraiilo in-
terest is manifested in the case. Some of his
most intimate and personal friends testify
that be is insane from what cause they dou't
