Officers are to U chosen for the city they
know the men who are put forward; tbey
know their capabilities their reliability ;
their capaoity their habits and inclinations

they are for the general go. d without once
thinking of politics going to vote for the

ingnow to the thinking responsible reliable
business and working men of the city. Iu
every city tbore are rounders and floating
voters ready to go with any tide but they do
not enter into consideration in these Tcfl.:c-

become a prosperous thriving city. The
great bulk of tbe population that e are to

northern western and northwestern
states. Our railroads our genial cli-

Sir Crowrtna Elected Mnyor Over all
WjipoHlf ion.
Another mayor for the city of Dallas has
beiu olected to fill tho vacancy occasioned
by tha ineligibility of Colonel John Stone
the mayor elect at the last regular municipal
ek-ctirn. The polls in the different wards
were thrown open to tho voters at the usual
hour. Tho voting early in the morning
wasralherslowand thoro was a want of
anything liko enthusiasm thnt generally
characterizes a municipal election. It lock-
ed ns though tho voting citizen had over
slept biniselt Dut etier awnue mey oegun io
drop in und the first thing the recording
clerks knew tbey wre busy writing down tbe
Coiinomcus of those who ex.ercised the right
of suliVngo. It was not long eilhor before
hsclis and other vehicles bearing streamers
nil W hich were leltrred tbe names of the
r "jeclive candidates were dashing here nnd
there through the cuy convej ing voters to the
polls What are known a'workers"were out
in full forco at all the polls and when the
voter csme within nearing cistance tne
mrikor. for each side would essay to capture
him and would b9 oxtrotnelv solicitous about
nr.ividinir him with a ticket and ouite ire'
queiitly converts were made after a little
confidential talk was had. The majority of
the business men voted early .and it wa. lett
to the crowd so to speak to do
the talking and hurrahing for the
candidates. The colored vote was considerably
split up many of them voting for Croidiis
while a less number voted for Hunt the
independent candidate. The republican
wont pretty solid for Hunt.es did the Jewisb
cit'zans. At noon there was but very little
i!ilfnrtnce in the vote for the two candi-
dates and there was a great deal of bnttipg
on both sides. The polls then clojod for
dinner and many and loud were tho com-
plaints that they were not kept open espec-
ially among tho laboring classes
who could " ill afford to spend
much of the time away from their work. A'
the day wore on and the votoa rapidly in-
croase i so did the excitement end every
voier wa. precious. Hoth side agroed that
the race wk. nip and tuck though about 4
o'clock in the afternoon the interest ot Hunt
b gn to wane and the election of Crowdus
was generally conceded.
What white republican voted and the
lUhjoriiy of tbem did went for Hunt. Never
in the history of Dallas wa. the colored vote
o split tbe majority of them voting for Dr.
Crowdus the democratic nominee.
