After mature deliberation a powerful
sjndicato of l'aris bankers conspicuous
among whom were the Jlothsclnlus deter-
niined to come to the relief of the embar-
rassed Union Generale. Stringent condi-
tions have been imposed at the liothschilds'
especial demand to prevent any abuse be-
ing made of the assistance given. It is
. probable the Bank of Lyons and Loire will
also be propped up.
At ft meeting of shareholders of the Bank
of Lyons and Loire the. necessary sums
were voted to insure the co-operation ol the
l'aris syndicate to enalilo the bank to im-
mediately resume business. The bank's
assets are 23CUOt00 francs and liabilities
17000000 francs. The shareholders will
have to pay 37000000 francs on their shares.
The syndicate of capitalists headed by the
Jfanque de l'aris have advanced 170W)0U0
francs thereby covering deposits due by
the Union Generale on demand.
Tlte Financial Chronicle remarks thnt
the recent collapse in l'aris does not di-
rectly affect United States bonds or stocks
though it does indirectly through LomUn
by reason ol the speculation carried on
there on French account and the demand
the crisis creates upon London for gold. It
would appeur from the lnrge gain of gold
last week by the Bank of France that a lib-
eral amount wus thus sent forward. These
'u..i.m. nnd apprehensions of further
TToultiesUttive induced London tocontinue
selling American securities and tho trans
actions by came lmve proonniy ueen large.
Instead however of disposing ol the fancy
Sroperties held tncre London appears to
ave liberally sold her first class holdings
lor which a ready market could he found at
New York and in this way it is reported
that large amounts of Illinois Central New
York Central Luko Shore and other
properties of that character have been dis-
posed of.
The securities dealt in on the l'aris bourse
are confined to European bonds and shares
of continental companies. Americans-have
no place at the board there having been no
trading in United States bonds lor nearly
twenty years. American securities are
upon the Frankfort and London exchanges
but not elsewhere. V

Pam.as January 27. During the enrly
pint of the season there was a noted want
of game for side innir markets and the lit-
tle ollered was ol the most uninviting char-
acier. So far there has been almost a totul
absence of venison bullulo or antelope
while nearly every other city in the
eountrv. as far cast as Boston
has - had an abundance. At this
time our deulcrs are well supplied with the
smaller game and quail rubbits and ducks
are oti'ered freely uiicn the stree s. A large
portion of these however arc bi ought Iroin

high prices. Tlie samo holds
good regarding fish. Our supplies
here are irencrullv drawn from the Gull
are of an excellent quality but sold u.
prices above the ability of the average
working man to purchase them. These
facts lead to the conclusion that our game
and hsli laws ure cither very detocUve in
protecting game and fish or ure not en
forced as they should be by the proper
ollicials or by'those who are interested in
their preservation. The government of the
united States thinks it oi enough nnnor-
tan'.e to the people ol the whole country to
propagate lis h and supply all the streams
and ponds wuh tlie best varieties known to
the world and it should be one oi me par-
amount duties of our Legislature to see
that they are properly protected
by tlie most stringent laws in order that
they muy become a source of food supply
for the people as well as a pleasure to those
who tfre Tond of indulging in piscatorial
sports. It is said that fish traps ure to be
found in ncurly every river in our State
and that seining for the hnny tribe is a
common occurrence whenever the waters
will permit. Game is killed at all seasons.
ami the borcity of all kinds fully ottetts to

upon our statute books laws il enforced
that will protect game and fish that they
will be executed to their fullest extent and
if no such laws exist it should one of the
first acts of our coming Legislature to enact
them and thereby secure to our people a
benelit not only in sustaining li.'e and
health but in pfiurdiug pleasure and enjoy-
ment. BrsiNEss was much better to-day than it
has been foi a week past. The weather bus
improved somewhat but it still presents a
threatening appearance which nas kept
people in tne country at home. Tlie reads

are just at that stale when llieynre very
heavy for wagons and teams. Iletail trade

business unusually largo.
Dallas January 28. The completion of
the Texas rucilieKailroautoi'.l rasoopens
up a new country to settlement which isdes-
titute of timber suitable for the manufacture
of lumber. The lumber region through
which the Texas .t l'acilic ltoud now runs
ill Kustcrn Texas is almost exhausted of
nine and oak tributary to the lino of tho
road und tho necessity of developing new
fields for the lumber trade is apparent to
all who have given tho matter tiny consid-
eration. The amount of lumber which
will be reouired ill onciiincui) to settlement
and productiveness the country west of this
city can hardly be computed in ngurcs.
Tlie extension and completion of the Trunk
Line ltoad to the pine forests of South-
eastern Texas will soon become a necessity
for Western Texas cannot depend ulone on
the supplies furnished by the Texas A
l'acilic 1mm Northeastern Texas nor can
it look to thu the more Southern portions
of the Statu to furnish all that will be re
quired in the near future.
The inadequacy of Kastern Texus to
snrinlv even Dallas and her surroundings
w ith lumber required for improvements of
ol all kinds Is an cviuence Hint ouier re-
gions must bo opened up to us soon and
the constantly increasing demands from the
West will stil lessen the supplies tlint nave
hereioforu come to Dallas for distribution
to the country tributary to her anil to the
more northwestern districts. This is a mut-
i. rilnit oiii'litlo attract the attention ol
our business men. generally and our lumber
men particularly and tney snouiu enueavor
in everv niniiner possible to push forwarJ
some road to the extensive pine regions of
Southeastern Texas that we may reap tne
bpiicllta that would be derived lrom such
an important source of trade and wealth.
Tt-Tr to.lnv hns been brik nil over
the citv. and particularly so with the retail
merchants. Toe weather has permitted
many from the country to venture out to
purcliase necessary family supplies and
trade generally lias been more active than
for iverl dava past. The wholesale trade

trade have exiicriunued the god cllects of
