A Terrible Tragedy Near Itockdale.
Rockdale Feb. 28. Special. New
reached here this morning of a dospor-
; ate affair which occurred about fifteen

It seems there was a dance at the house
' of W. H. Davis. One Zeb Stephens who
was formerly a deputy sheriff
started to go outside with Buck Scales
at the latter'a request to talk.

Tragedy In Coryell County.

Advance issueil an oxtra this evening
as follows: "To-day another of
thoso blood-curdling ' tragedies which
have so otten disgraced our country
occurred at the quiet little
village of Jonesboro. It seems
thai there had been some
misunderstanding between Joel lirau-
don and Willis Oden; tho latter is a
deputy sherin". On Thursday the nutt-
ier was arbitrated but it seems that it

about 50 yards from the main st.reet to-
ward the' Lawrenca hotel and tlie shoot-
ing occurred. Oden shot Brandon three

or not. Soon alter llrandon
was killed his wife arrived. Mean-
while thosaloon keeporhad also arrlvod.
On seeing the dead body of her hus
band she exclaimed: 'Whisky did it!'

souri special to the Post-Dispatch says:
Three hundred and fifty employes of
the Wabash machine shops quit work
this morning. Since then they have
been holding secret meetings. A tle-
gram was received from Master Me-
chanic Jacob Johsnuan at Springfield
Illinois notifying the workmen that
unless they were at their places at 11:.'!0
o'clock they would be discharged. The
strikers have concluded that this Is a
bluff and say they will not return to
work until the former schedule of wages
Is ordered.
