In order to keep fully up with these
railroad tines we lately ordered and
are now In receipt of a large number of
new foots of beautiful new-stylo type
for our Job Department which in ad
dition to our former largo and superior
outfit will enable us to do all kinds of
Job Printing in the latest and best
style of the art equal to the average of
Austin or San Antonio work and at
the same prices. We therefore respect
fully solioit the patronage cf our busi
ness men and others and hope that
in common justice and fair play to
wards a home office the practioe of
tending off Job work to outside points
whioh is now so very prevalent may
be abandoned. ; We ' ask such as
would do this to consider what would
be the effoot on the business of the
plaoe if the samo polioy were pursued
all round? Yet it is obvious that the
same tbing can be done bv one branoh
of business about as veil as another
and that if persisted ia by some it will
be done in self defence by others. We
say let that sort of thing drop and let
us all stand by one another. 06ly by
this means ean the business of our
town grow and prosper
Call and soe samplos and give us a

Judge Kone attended the Galveston
convention.
Susannah Spinster fails us this week
snd many of our younger readers will
be disappointed. '
A Mr. Barnes and wife from the Isle
of Wight have united with the Meth-
odist church at this plaoe.
Aue. Giesen has gone to Austin to
take a position with Walter Tips & Co.
Charley Wetzel is again with Wm.
Giesen. " ' '
Hons. John Ireland and George
Pfeuffor and some fifty others from all
parts of the country were registered at
"the Hofhemz since our last.
Rev. Mr. Kennedy was considerably
bruised in consequence of beiog thrown
from a water eart the other day but
is already pretty well reoovercd.
We reeret to lose from our town our
friends Mr. Gramm and his "better
half" jrho have removed to New
Brauufols. Good luck to them.
Mr. Mack ay Sen. is exhibiting his
skill as a gardener at the residence of
his son. He evidently "knows how to
do it" and if be. fails the fault will
not be his.
We fonrot last week to notice a nov
el affair a marriage at the Post Office.
Squire Grooms assistant P. M. tied
the knot. Ho stood behind the "gen
eral delivery" and delivered the cere
mony across the railing but whether
he used the Episcopal or Catholic rit
ual we are unable to Bay. It was a
runaway arrangement.
We met Geo. Pfeuffer. of ' New
BraunfeU last week at this place and
asked him as to the progress of the ar-
tesian well be is having bored on his
farm on the Cibolo. He said he had
given up his first plan but bad taken
a new departure. He had at an ex-
pense of some 15000 made all ar
rangements to go down 2000 feet. He
thinks he will not have to go further
to reach water but will do so if neces
sary. He is sanguine 01 ultimate suc
cess. The result of his experiment
will be looked to with great interest.
Our Bear creek correspondent on
our last page makes a reference to "the
Murray case." Apropos our friend J .
D. Cadv sent us a letter not long since
with regard to it but we do not think
the subject of sufficient general in-
terest to wanantus in giving much
more space to it. Mr. C. says ho wrote
before on behalf of Mr. Murray and
hence does not think it waa fair to
criticise him personally. He says Mur
ray still aaserts that the arresting par
ty told him that it waa because be did
not inauire at Young's atore and was a
stranger that led to his being suspect-
ed and arrested. These are the main
points in Mr. C. 'a letter.
