THE IMA BLUEBLOOD AWARD
--(A REGISTERED TRADEMARK)
The Ima Blueblood Award, a Registered Trademark, will be
given annually, to members and guests of the Texas State Geneal.
Society who have contributed to the preservation of Texas local,
church, and family history. The Ima Blueblood coat of arms was
designed at the request of the Texas State Genealogical Society
president, (Mrs.) Edna Perry Deckler by Herald Joseph G. Ferrier
of Washington, D. C., then president of the National Genealogical
Society.3ma Nluebtoob

Mr. Ferrier, currently the Herald for NGS, says of this coatof
arms, "This is a straight-faced spoof, of course. On the shield
the arms of Castile, one of the Royal lines of Spain, and the C
Chief that of the Angevin Kings of Naples. Crest--the gold fleur
de lis of France between the Charter horns, called "proboscides"
of a German nobleman. Mantling--Red and ermine. Supporters--
The red dragon of Wales on the dexter and on the sinister side,
a gold lion of England, both perched on a motto ribbon (colors
optional) with an Irish motto meaning "The Strong Hand Uppermost."
The helmet is the German spangenhelm of the high nobility....
I could have made something obviously ridiculous instead
of this rather believable-looking achievement, but I don't
think Ima Blueblood would have been happy with it, any more than
you or I would. On the other hand, this is just the type of thing
someone is always springing up with and claiming it was slapped
onto their ancestor by Richard the Lionhearted or Otto the Simple
and that any resemblance to a device in BURKE'S PEERAGE, 1926, for
a railroad magnate created a Lord in 1924, is pure coincidence."
