At Lexington Ky. last election day

The effect of the sale of the Union
Pacific upan the army aid the navy
will be immediate and far-reaching.
The appropriation for the transporta-
tion of troops and stores for the army
aggregates in round numbers aoout
$2 500000 annuaUy. There has accru
ed a saving for this tuna up to ice
present of about $250000 for tbe trans-
portation of government freight and
troops over the Union Pac.tic railrt al

All the earciogs of this road on this
account heretofore have been credited
on the books of the treasury depart-
ment as an off set to the banded in-
debtedness of the oompiny to tbe Un-

treasury have until now forbidden the
payment cf any transportation funds of

priations already made by congress
must be used to Dav for a service ag
gregating $25000 D(r month whion
was pra aica'ly free to the army and

made. Whether tns will caase a large
deficit in the transporta'i m fucds will
depend entirely uptn the amount of
eionotny which may be exercised by
the a-my and navy officials who are
charged with the expenditure of the
money.

Electric Bitters.
Electric Bitters is a medicine suited
for any season but perhaps more gen-
erally needed when the languid ex-
hausted feeling prevails when the
liver is torpid and sluggish and the
need of a tonic and alterative is felt.
A prompt use of this medicine has
often averted long and perhaps fatal
bilious fevers. No medic ne will act
more sure'y in counteracting and free
ing the system irom the malarial poi
son. Headache indigestion constipa-

How to
guard against the disease.
Croup is a terror to young mothers
and to post them concerning the cause
first symptoms and treatment is the
object of tnis item. The origin of
croup is a common cold. Cniidieu who
are subject to it take cold very easily
and croup is almost sure to follow.
The first symptom is hoarsenei-s; this
is soon followed by a peculiar rough
cough which is easily "recognized and
will never be forgotten by one who
has heard it. The time to act is when
the child first become hoarse. If
Chamberlain's Cough Kemedy is freely
given all tendency to croup will 60on
disappear. Even after the croupy
cough has developed it will prevent
the attack. There is no danger in
giving this remedy for it contains noth-
ing it jurious. For sale by all drug-

Blood in a Terrible Condition and
All Run Down in Health Has Be-
come Strong and Healthy.
"I was oil run down blood in terrible
condition and I was troubled with a severe
scrofulous humor which caused me great
suffering. I took medicine for a long
time but received no permanent benefit.
At this time I was working in a general
store and I thought I would look over the
medicines and see if I could find some-
thing that.jv9u.ld hit my case. J read an
advertisement of Hood's Sarsaparilla and
concluded to try "it. The first bottle
helped me wonderfully and I continued
its use until I had taken nine bottles. By
this time I felt like a new man and since
then have not been sick a day. I am now
etrong-and healthy and I have such-confidence
in Hood's 'Sarsaparilla thatl recom-
mend it as the best medicine on earth.1?
