and the traditions of the race.
The summer drive to bring vaca-
tionists and residents of rural districts
back to the House of Israel is one of
the many activities featuring the na-
tional movement to raise $3600000.
The purpose of the fund is to enable
the Union to carry out a ten-year pro-
gram of expansion. The campaign
will last for thirty-five weeks and to
attain the goal it is necessary to raise
$100000 a week.
Discussing the work of organization
to date Mr. Strauss said:
"We have succeeded in organizing
the various forces of the different
cities and communities throughout the
country and hourly the movement is
receiving greater impetus. Our ap-
peal for support has been directed
mainly at the young Jews of America.
Our great rank and file of Jewish
youth from one end of the country to
the other has responded to the call
without reservation. It is largely due
to the enthusiasm of our young men
that we were able in less than a week
to assemble the machinery of a great
country-wide organization as the ve-
hicle through which Jews of America
will be made familiar with the poten-
tialities of the Union for serving the
cause of Judaism in the United
States."
J. Walter Freiberg President of the
Union outlined the purposes of the
missionary enterprise as follows:
"It is our purpose to keep within the
fol ? the scattered groups of Jews in
small towns throughout the country
who are without religious instruction
and training. Either we must hold
them or lose them. Our records show
at least a thousand towns where this
condition obtains. There may be twice
that number. We now have the sup-

CORRESPONDENCE.
Editor Jewish Monitor:
Hie undersigned of this city attend-
ed the Confirmation Services at Tern-
pie Mt. Sinai of El Paso Sunday May
23rd. His niece Blooma Borschow
was one of the confirmants of a large
class. The services and the program
were rendered in splendid style which
was greatly enjoyed by all who at-
tended. In honor of their daughter
Blooma Mr. and Mrs. Max Borschow
had open house from 7 until 10 p. m.
All members of the congregation were
invited and all that attended reported
a very good time.
Rabbi Ziclonka deserves very much
credit for the splendid work that he is
doing for the Temple and the city of
El Paso. It is the belief of the writer
that El Paso is indeed blessed by hav-
ing such men and women as Dr. and
Mrs. Zielonka. They are surely enti-
tled to the support of the whole con-
gregation. Yours truly
DAVID PLINER.
