HOW THE WEASLES BECAME
HONEST.
A Tale from the Talmud.
"What induces theft and creates
thieving!" a schoolmaster once asked
hit cholars.
One answered "Hunger;" 'another
"Extravagance;" another "Envy;"
but ot)e little fellow wiser than all the
rest replied "Receivers."
"Well answered my little man"
said the master. "Now I'll tell you a
tale out of the Midrash. You know
that King Solomon says 'Whosoever
Is partner with a thief hateth his own
soul;" which means He who derives
gain from a thief by helping him to
realize the profit of the theft is thor-
oughly dishonest himself- and of the
two is the more culpable.
"Now the Midrash Illustrates this
proverb in this fashion: A powerful
and wise Prince once made a law that
the receiver of stolen property should
be hanged and the thief go free. This
caused great discontent among certain
people who lived like gentlemen
among others who associated with
them and attended their fine parties
and likewise among some who had
sufficient tense to understand the
true intention of the Prince.
"The Prince anxious to teach the
people the wisdom of his edict order-
ed all hit discontented subjects to
meet him on a large field which he had
specially prepared for the occasion.
"Now the day before they met he
had the ground pierced with a num-
ber of holes. The malcontents assem-
bled and the Prince ordered some
large pieces of meat to be strewn all

Dallas Man Delivers Roh Hashanah
Sermon.
Sherman- Texas Sept. 14. Usher-
ed in Sunday evening with "delight-
ful Texas cotton weather" the Jewish
New Ye'ar or Rosh Hashanah was
observed by Jewish citizens of Sher-
man with special services Sunday
evening and again Monday morning.
In the 11 o'clock servie'e Monday
morning held in Knights of Pythias
Hall Jonas Rosen field of Dallas in
charge of the service declared that
"we accept full responsibility for the
present delightful weather following
the heavy rains of recent weeks as a
part of the Jewish New Year. Mr.
Rosenfield delivered the customary
New Year's sermon following the
prayer service of which he was also
in charge.
over the ground and a few weasles
to be let loose. In a very hori time
the weasles disappeared down the
holes with the meat.
"On the morrow the Prince again
assembled the malcontents again let
loose the thievish weasles; but he had
taken the precaution to have every
hole and nook stopped up. So when
the weasels pounced on the meat and
ran with it to the little dens where
they hud disposed of the proceeds of
. their theft they found the holes closed
against them; so they dropped their
spoil and I don't know from the
midrash when they became honest
of their own accord but in any case
their game was stopped.
"One thing is certain; for a long
time theft ceased in the kingdom of
the wise Prince for the receivers met
with the treatment they richly de-
served." So the little boy was right who an-
swered "Receivers make the thief."
No holes and even weasels will be-
come honest.
POGROM POSTERS PREVALENT
THROUGHOUT POLAND.
Warsaw: (By I. J. P. B.) Polish cit-
ies are again placarded with appeals
to the people to rise up against the
Jews and drive them out of the coun-
try. In addition to the old charge of
ritual murder and other Iniquities
usually attributed to Jews the new
posters charge Jews with conspiracy
In bringing about the recent Invasion
of Poland by the Bolshevlkl and with
sympathy for the Invader. The gov-
ernment maintains a passive attitude
of non-interference and the Jewish
deputies in the Polish diet are prom-
ised an investigation as usual.
POLISH GOVERNMENT JUSTIFIES
ITS ATTITUDE.
Warsaw: (By I .J. P. B.) The Polish
Government has recently issued a
statement justifying its expulsions of
Jews from many tows before the ar-
rival of the Bolshcviki as well as con-
tributions levied upon the Jews of
Uscia Dolna. The statement is to the
effect that the Jews of those towns
continually Bhowed their friendliness
to the Bolshevik! both in word and
dted. The levying of a contribution
is justified on account of a Jewish at-
turk upon Polish soldiers.
GENERAL W RANG EL INVITES A

of the former Russian Empire under
