WESTERN AREA VICE DIRECTOR
REPORT
to the
32ND WESTERN AREA CONFERENCE
To the Area Director, Link Thelma J. Rice, members of the Executive
Committee, delegates to the 32nd Western Area Conference, and Links of
the Western Area, I want to thank you for allowing me to serve as your
Area Vice Director and Program Coordinator. The last two years have been
both exciting and productive. The synergy that existed between members
of Executive Committee kept us focus on the priorities of this
administration: communication, cooperation and collaboration.
It is with a sense of pride and gratitude that I can report that I received
program reports from all chapters in 1994; and, I anticipate by the time
we convene in Fresno, I will be able to report that all chapters have
complied with our request to report their 1994-95 program activities.
Each Area Facet Chairman has stressed the importance of collaborating and
developing linkages with other organizations- This effort will increase our
effectiveness and enhance our capability to serve more people. Utilizing
the theme Promoting: Programs, Principles and Purpose, I have seen very
strong programs emerge with emphasis on, Empowering the African -
American Family for the 2ist Century.
Most chapters are utilizing the "umbrella" approach to develop and
implement programs. Please refer to the Facet Area Chairmen for more
detail information on specific facet programs.
One of my most enjoyable experiences was serving as the coordinator of
the Meritorious Award Program. This was a first of its kind award
program for an area in The Links, Incorporated. Four financial awards
were given during the biennium. Kudos to chapters who submitted
nominations.
In the last two years I have attended all meetings of the Executive
Committee; served as liaison to the host chapter for the 32nd Area
Conference; also served as a workshop leader at a cluster meeting;
comrrmunicated with chapters on a variety of issues; and, participated in
chapter programs, installations and fund-raisers.
