Virginia LINK is HEW Fellow
LINK Patricia Harbour, Reston Chapter, on leave from the Fair-
fax Public School system, is serving as a fellow in the U.S. Depart-
ment of Health, Education and Welfare in Washington, D.C. Recent-
ly, she served as a consultant for Columbia (Maryland) Educational
Center at the Southeast Regional Conference on Educational Imper-
atives.
Oakland President Gets Mayor's Appointment
Oakland Bay Area Chapter President Wene Watson has been cho-
sen chairperson for the Oakland-African Sister City Committee. The
mayor's invitation to her was due to the strong interest of LINKS
International Trends and Service and its emphasis on community vo-
lunteer service.
LINK Chapter of Presidents
Arlington Chapter may have a first and only. Three of its mem-
bers are presidents of national organizations; Pauline Ellison, Nation-
al President of the LINKS, Inc.; Jacki'e Robinson, National President
of "Girl Friends"; and Beth Stone, National President of the "Smart
Set".
Georgia LINK Gets Two Key Board Appointments
LINK Josephine Wilkes was appointed recently to the Board of
Trustees of the Brunswick Junior College Foundation and the Glynn
County Bicentennial Steering Committee. She was elected also to
the Executive Board of the Southeast Health Systems, Inc.
Georgia LINK Leads Mental Health Drive
LINK Virginia Dent was responsible for more than 27 per cent of
the reported memberships in a recent drive by the Brunswick Men-
tal Health Association of Glynn County.
Central Area
The Central Area of LINKdom has featured International Wo-
men's Year in its first printed area Newsletter and has adopted a po-
licy of each LINK paying $1.00 to cover postage. Highlights from
their Focus on International Women's Year includes these items:.
The Cincinnati Chapter will co-sponsor a regional conference a-
long with representatives of the city's major women's organiza-
tions, the University of Cincinnati's Department of Women's Stu-
dies (Note Well)--and the Ohio and Cincinnati Bicentennial Com-
missions. The theme is "Pioneers for Century Il." The dates are
April 22-25, 1976. The Objective: To Highlight Women's Contri-
butions to America.
Frankfort-Lexington, Kentucky, Chapter will honor outstanding
women in their area. March is the month they have set for a sub-
scription banquet where they will present awards to women selected
for their outstanding contributions for "the betterment of all human
beings regardless of race, color, creed, or religion."
***Wilberforce Chapter has each month a Black Women's History
Emphasis by studying the contributions of Black women and "tell-
ing the story" to the young people of today. A Women-of-the-Year
Program is being planned.Chicago Chapter member and national chapter establishment of-
ficer, Dr. Anna Julian, attended the dedication of Percy Julian Hall
at illinois State University, named in honor of her late husband and
Connecting LINK, Percy Julian.

LINK Elaine Graham Estes, head of Des Moines' West Side Li-
brary and a member of the Mayor's Bicentennial Commission, was
appointed one of Iowa's two advisors to the National Trust for His-
toric Preservation for a three-year term. The announcement was
made in Washington by James Biddle, president of the Trust. Con-
necting LINK John M., Jr., is a Des Moines mortician.
EASTERN AREA
The Brooklyn Chapter celebrated International Women's Year
with a Dinner-Dance, Sunday, November 23,1975, at the Astorian
Manor. The honorees were the Honorable Angie Brooks-Randolph,
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Monrovia, Liberia; Mr. Frederick O'Neal,
International President of Associated Actors and Artists of America;
Miss Theresa Merritt of "That's My Mama"; Mr. Earl G. Graves,
Publisher -- President of Earl G. Graves, Ltd.; and Miss Judith L.
Bourne, J.D., first Black woman attorney of the State of South Car-
olina (Brooklyn Chapter Heir-o-LINK).
At the beautiful Preston Hill Inn in Middlebury, Connecticut,
over two hundred LINKS, Connecting LINKS and friends from
New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, came to pay tribute
to Waterbury Chapter's honored guest, Miss Marian Anderson.
LINK Corinne Schuster, Waterbury's most efficient and hard-
working President, presided over the luncheon. Etta Moten Barnett
was the speaker. Greetings were given by Ms. Gloria Schaffer,
Secretary of State (representing Ms. Ella Grasso, Governor of
Connecticut), Mayor Victor Mambruno of Waterbury, and the
Area Director for National President, LINK Pauline Ellison, and
the Eastern Area LINKS. Miss Camilla Williams, a recipient of
one of Miss Anderson's scholarships, sang several numbers, which
were immensely enjoyed by all. LINK Schuster made a presentation
of $500 to Miss Anderson for her favorite charity, which Miss
Anderson returned to the LINKS' . Eastern Area LINKdom
would have been proud to see the newly installed members of the
Waterbury Chapter in action. Former Area Director, LINK
Millicent Smith was present.
Greater New York had as their guests Dr. John W. Davis, NAACP
Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Christopher Edley, United
Negro College Fund. The Chapter gave the Defense Fund a $700.00
check and the College Fund a $1,000.00 check at the meeting which
was held November 1 at the Hotel Piccadilly.
The Baltimore Chapter honored their past presidents - Audrey
Norris, Theresa Weaver, Etta Phifer, Catherine Adams, Beatrice
Butler, Louise Perrin, Helen Burwell, Mary Harris, Lydia Mussenden,
and Emma Michael. The Late LINKS Xaveria McDonald, Florence
Gloster and Pearl Pennington were commemorated.Also honored were Barbara Patterson - work with Title I children;
Robbie Chissell - outstanding leadership; Kay Carter - co-chairman of
the Maryland Commission on the Status of Women; Frances Hill and
Marie Hicks - outstanding service in the Eastern Area of LINKS; and
Theresa Water - valuable service as Administrative Assistant of the
Upcoming Pages
