Senator Rawlings sent up the fol-
lowing amendment:
Amend H. B. No. 6, Oneal substi-
tute, by adding thereto immediately
after the enacting clause, a new sec-
tion to be known as Section 1-a and
Section 2 Chapter 88 Acts of the
Forty-first Legislature, Second Called
Session, as amended by Chapter 23,
Section 2, Acts of the Forty-first
Legislature, Fifth Called Session, is
hereby amended to hereafter read as
follows:
"Sec. 1-a. Every owner of a motor
vehicle, trailer or semi-trailer used
or to be used upon the public high-
ways of this State, and each chauf-
feur, shall apply each year to the
State Highway Department through
the county tax collector of the county
in which he resides for the registra-
tion of each such vehicle owned or
controlled by him, or for a chauf-
feur's license, for the ensuing or cur-
rent calendar year or unexpired por-
tion thereof; provided, however, the
owner of any commercial motor ve-
hicle, trailer, semi-trailer, or motor
bus shall have the right to register
the same in any county in which or
through which said vehicle is to be
regularly operated, and shall be priv-
ileged to render the same for taxa-
tion and to pay the ad valorem tax
upon any such vehicle in the county
where the same is registered; pro-
vided, however, that owners of farm
tractors, farm trailers, farm semi-
trailers, and implements of husband-
ry, operated or moved temporarily
upon the highways shall not be re-
quired to register such farm tractors,
farm trailers, farm semi-trailers, or
implements of husbandry; provided,
however, that such farm trailers and
farm semi-trailers are operated in
conformity to all provisions of the
law save and except the require-
ments as to registration and license;and providing further that the ex-
emptions in this section shall not ap-
ply to any farm trailer or farm semi-
trailer when the gross weight ex-
ceeds 4,000 pounds; provided, that
no farm trailer or farm semi-trailer
with metal tires shall be permitted
to operate at a speed in excess of
fifteen (15) miles per hour; and fur-
ther provided that the exemptions in
this section shall not apply to any
farm trailer or farm semi-trailer
with steel tires of a width less than
three inches operating in excess of
fifteen (15) miles per hour; and pro-
viding, further, that the exemption
in this section shall not apply to any
farm trailer or farm semi-trailer
when the same is used for hire. Pro-
vided, however, it shall be unlawful
to operate any trailer or semi-trailer
at night without a rear red light or
red reflectors."
The amendment was adopted.
Senator Duggan sent up the fol-
lowing amendment:
Amend H. B. No. 6, by adding an
additional section, reading as fol-
lows:
"Sec. 7-a. All school buses owned
by any school district and operated
under the supervision of any public
school board in Texas, used exclu-
sively for the transportation of chil-
dren to and from school, shall be
exempt from registration fees."

At 11:55 o'clock a. m., the Chair
announced that the hour for the Ex-
ecutive Session had arrived. The
Chamber was cleared and the doors
were locked.
After Executive Session.
At the conclusion of the Executive
Session at 12:05 o'clock p. m., the
Secretary of the Senate informed the
Journal Clerk that the following ac-
tion had been taken:
The appointment of Hon. Thomas
H. Fox, of Birmingham, Alabama, as
Commissioner of Deeds for the State
of Texas in Alabama.
Confirmed.
Recess.
On motion of Senator Moore, the
Senate, at 12:06 p. m., recessed un-
til 2 o'clock p. m. today.
