By MATTHEW BAILIE
2nd Armd. Div. Staff Writer
A young man enters the company
dayroom to a spectacle of people playing
pool and talking loudly. He picks up a
magazine and eyes the cover lazily paying
little attention to it. He sighs to himself and
mumbles "Another stuck-in-the barracks
evening.”
The whirring noise of machinery catches
his attention and draws him to the T.V.
room. Out of curiosity he enters the room
and observes a projector showing a film
and people from his company deeply en-
grossed in the movie. He sits down and
soon has forgotten about everything that is
outside of the room.
The "Barracks Ministry” is a program
that has been set up by the Campus
Crusade for Christ in cooperation with the
2nd Armd. Div. Chaplain’s office in an ef-
fort to "contact the people we have trouble
in reaching because of other duties” ex-
plained Chaplain (Lieutenant Colonel)
Duane D. Redding assistant division
chaplain 2nd Armd. Div.
In a pamphlet put out by the Campus
Crusade observes: "The Military Ministry
was created in 1965 to assist chaplains as
they bring the good news of Jesus Christ to
military personnel and their families. The
Military Ministry recognizes the unique
privilege of working with chaplains in a
community often ignored by civilians.
It continues "Made up of civilians and
military personnel the Military Ministry
strives to meet the needs of the military
world by sharing the claims of Jesus Christ
and by training service men and women to
become more effective as they live the
Christian life and in their personal witness
for Christ.”
All Saints Day
This Monday night is not only Halloween.
It is also the eve of All Saints Day. His-
torically it was on that day in 1517 that
Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the
Wittenberg Church door thereby initiating
the Protestant Reformation.
For some this day has been a day of
Theological debate and Ecclesiastical
division. Instead of allowing differences to
result in alienation the Catholic and Protes-
tant Congregations of the Community
Chapel at 33rd St. have chosen Reforma-
tion Sunday as a day to focus upon the com-
monality of their biblical faith.

Thursday October 27 1977
Campus Crusade for Christ is an in-
terdenominational Christian movement
with the goal of helping to take the claims
of Christ to all the world in this generation.
It was founded at the University of
California at Los Angeles in 1951 and since
then has spread to hundreds of com-
munities in the United States and to more
than 60 countries throughout the World.
JoAnna and Tina come into the barracks
after their visitation has been cleared
through the company commander and
they share the Lord with the men and
women there discussing possible problems
and getting to know the people. A film of
general interest is shown and it has a
message that tries to help the person to un-
derstand some of what Christ is about.
There are two different films that are
shown at different times.
Chaplain Redding leads in the presenta-
tion of the film and stays after the pro-
gram for a discussion with the group. If
there are any personal problems that a
person wishes to discuss other than those
that are normally handled through an ap-
pointment with the chaplain’s office the
chaplain or the girls stay and are willing to
talk them over.
The man gets up after all the discussion
is finished he looks at his watch and two
hours have passed since the time that he
first stepped into the room. He walks into
the dayroom to the same sight of people
playing pool but they go unnoticed as he
quietly makes his way outside to the greet-
ing of a cool night’s breeze.
He says goodnight to his newly found
friends and returns to the barracks with the
knowledge that his “stuck-in-the-barracks
evening” was not a wasted one.
It is in this spirit that in the 9:45 a.m.
Catholic Mass the sermon will be delivered
by the Protestant Chaplain Carl Thompson
and in the 11 a.m. Protestant service
Catholic Chaplain Chalres D. Logue will be
speaking. Iii addition to the exchange of
pulpits a joint choir made up of members
from each congregation will be singing in
both services.
Following the services members of both
congregations of the Community Chapel
will unite at 2:30 p.m. for a barbeque pic-
nic recreation and fellowship.
