A speedboat crew from Co E 11th Engr Bn 49th Div Texas
National Guard rush to a bay that a CH-47 Chinook dropped
into Belton Lake. Forming a floating bridge was one of the
missions that Co E-performed at Belton during their annual
training.
Dance at Signal ball
The 134th Signal Corps Ball will be held at
6 p.m. Aug. 6 in the main ballroom of the Fort
Hood Officers’ Club. The cost is $22.
The guest speaker will be Brig. Gen. Dou-
glas D. Buchholz deputy commander of the
U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon Ga.
All signal officers warrant officers com-
mand sergeants major and sergeants major are

Ten-Miler team a a rs
Help send the Fort Hood Ten-Miler Team to
Washington D.C. for the big race. Let them
wash your car or truck for a nominal fee from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Fort Hood
National Bank (Clear Creek Exchange). The
fee for a car or truck/van is $3.50 and $4.50
respectively. The Fort Hood Ten-Miler Team
has been successful in the past and with your
help they will win again in October.
Attend regim mental ball
The Lonestar Chapter of the Adjutant Gen-
eral’s Regimental Association presents a regi-
mental ball at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Main
NCO Club. All AG officers noncommissioned
officers soldiers civilians and retirees are

the lake. Suddenly the scene
was changed as a CH-47 Chi-
nook helicopter appeared over

Military assault float bridge company trains at Belton

It dropped an inflated life
raft into the lake. A 14-man
crew leapt from the chopper to
the raft. The Chinook flew off.
Most jumped into the raft but
a few hit the water. They were
quickly pulled into the raft.
The crew was from Company
E 111th Engineer Battalion
49th Division Texas National
Guard. Co E is an assault float
bridge company that recently
conducted their annual train-
ing here.
Soldiers from units within
the 1st avalry Division
served as advisers and evalua-
tors for the Guardsmen.
Soon the Chinooks returned
carrying MK-2 speedboats. The
raft moved quickly toward the
boats. An operator a secondary
operator and a medic manned
each speedboat.
Once three MK-2s were in
th ater th choppers
dropped six bays into the
water. Bays are large metal
ramps that can be joined to-
gether to create an inflatable
bridge.

Attend pre-retirem ent orientation
A pre-retirement orientation for military
personnel will be conducted from 9 to 11:30
a.m. Aug. 17 at the Main NCO Club. There
will be a slide presentation and country fair
counseling.
Representatives from Texas Veterans Com-
mission Social Security CHAMPUS Finance
Legal Assistance Civil Service Office Trans-
portation Texas Employment Commission Ed-
ucation Center and Retirement Services will
be available.
Commanders and individuals planning to
retire within the next year are encouraged to
attend. Adult family members are also encour-
aged to attend.
Loan closet changes hours
Due to staff shortages the Army Commuity
Service Loan Closet will be open from 1 to 3
p.m. Thursdays. The loan closet will also con-
tinue to operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Wednesday and Friday.
Recruiters visit
The W arrant Officer recruiting team will be
on Fort Hood at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Aug. 2
through 4 at Fiddlers’ Green Community Rec-
reation Center on Headquarters Avenue. Sol-
diers who are interested in pursuing a career
as a warrant officer in any field should attend.

gines moved the 7200-pound
raft across the lake.

Army’s FLEP available
Applications are now being accepted for the
Army’s Funded Legal Education Program
(FLEP). Under this program up to 10 Army
officers may be selected to attend law school at
government expense while on active duty.
Because of possible funding limitations par-
ticipations will be contingent on availability of
funds. This program is open only to active
duty commissioned officers who have at least
two but not more than six years of active duty
at the time legal training commences.
Eligible officers interested in applying
should immediately register for the fall offer-
ing of the Law School Admission Test. The
original application must be sent throught the
applicant’s chain of command and be received
by the officer’s branch manager at PERSCOM
no later than Nov. 1. A copy must be furnished
to Personnel Plans and Training The Judge
Advocate General 2200 Army Pentagon
Washington D.C. 20310-2200 no later than
Nov. 1.
Interested officers should contact their Staff
Judge Advocate for further information.
Office reduces hours
Due to the temporary shortage of personnel
the Crime Records Section has curtailed its
operating hours. The section will be open from
8:30 a.m. to noon Mondays Wednesdays and
Fridays and will be closed all day Thursday.
This change is effective immediately and will
remain in effect until further notice.
