Social Security Tax
Collection Methods
'Could Be Improved'
WASHINGTON (UP) — Rep.
Wright Patman, D., Tex., said
he favors improvement in the
method of collecting Social Se-
curity taxes for domestic help
but is opposed to exemption of
domestic employees from the
law.
A group of housewives in
Marshall, Tex., have rebelled at
paying their share of Social Se-
curity taxes for their domestic
workers. U. S. Treasury agents
have collected some of the taxes
the housewives owe by getting
warrants against their bank ac-
counts.
Patman told a reporter that he
had written one of the women at
PLUMED QUEEN-Wearing a
plumed, toque-style hat, Dow-
ager Queen Mary drives from
her London home, Marlborough
House, London, to the railroad
station where she entrained for
Sandringham. -
Bagley and Mrs. Reed were the
couneslors.
The Vacation Bible School is
being held each morning at 8.
Mrs. C. F. Cloud is the guest
worker. There are 100 enrolled.
Commencement will be held Sun-
day evening at 8.
Marshall that he was opposed to
repeal of the provision in the
Social Security Act that applies
to domestic help.
"But I do favor improvement
in the method of reporting and
in the system of paying," Pat-
man said. "I think a stamp plan
such as has been suggested
might work out much better."
Under the proposed 4ump
plan, both employers and em-
ployees would use stamps to
show payment of Social Security
taxes.

*This summer, I have put in a great many extra hours of work for my
customers every day.
uAir conditioners, attic fans, evaporative coolers, and portable fans
have been going full blast around the clock - 24 hours a day practically
every day. High temperatures, lack of rainfall and many -nights without
our usual cooling breeze have combined to make it an exceptionally
hot summer. Electric refrigerators have had to call on their reserve power
to keep food fresh and wholesome at constant temperatures under 40
degrees and to maintain ready supplies of ice cubes and cooling
beverages.
%'Some electric bills may be higher during such extreme hoi weather
because of this extra work but now - when you're able to stay cool and
comfortable in spite of the heat - is when your electric service reaii/
proves to be the biggest bargain in your home."
