If you haven't done it already, listen to the zooming
sound effects of the youngsters in your neighborhood
... listen to Cubs arguing about whether a P-38 or a
P-40 has the higher ceiling . . . listen to your Scouts
discuss wing load and engine load . . . listen to your
Senior Scouts talk navigation and meteorology. You'll
learn, as I did that boys from 5 to 18 are air-minded;
you'll find out that these boys think, talk and live j
aeronautics. That's why Air Scouting is spreading.
That's why Air Scouting is a challenge to us as leaders.
I gave up a Commissioner job to accept this chal-
lenge, because I saw that Air Scouting would boost
the Troops, Packs and Ships that are all part of our
gang. And it did. It also brought in a new crop of older
boys (two-thirds of my Squadron had no previous
Scout record).
Air Scouting is a modern, up-to-the-minute program
—it will attract the air-minded 12-year-old, who will
join a Troop to prepare for his Squadron future. His
attendance and advancement record will be high, be-
cause he has this intriguing Senior Program to shoot at.
The air-minded 12-year-old enters Scouting as a
Tenderfoot Air Scout Candidate, upon the completion
of his Tenderfoot tests, plus the construction of a
model plane and the knowledge of ten air safety rules.
