phisticated young honiescckcr from
Springfield Mo. was an easy Victim
for two "con" men at the Santa Fo
lepot Wednesday night who fleeced
liini out of ?45.
The young homeseeker stopped off
In Fort Worth on his way to Galves-
ton x where he Intended to look for a
location. While wandering about the
station ho fell In with a stranger and
n conversation was opened between
tho two. By a coincidence which
seemed fortunate to the young liome-
aeekor his now found companion was
also going to Galveston His now ac-
quaintance confided that Jie Was a Jew-
eler. His wife had recently died and
unable. o live amid the scenes of their
happiness lie had packed up his stock
of goods' which oven then wero in tho
freight depot awaiting shipment to
Galveston. With what cash ho had he
told tho young Missourlan' ho
purchased a draft for ?500 which he
carried in his pocket. At this point
in tho jeweler's narrative a third maiy
appeared who rcpiesented himself as
u freight agent and who demanded
that the jeweler" pay the advance
charges on his goods before they
would be shipped to Galveston. The
supposed JeweleY with all his funds
tied up in the draft was in a dollmma
from which ho was soon extricated by
tho homeseeker who advanced him
$15 with which to pay tho freight char-
ges taking tho ?500 draft as security.
The jeweler walked away with the
freight tolling tho young man to await
his return.
Whou tho young Homeseeker had
waited an hour and tho jeweler did
not appear ho set out to fnd him. At
toh freight depot he received his first
intimation thn)t ho had been bunkoed.
