About six o'clock Saturday afternoon
the report gained circulation on tho
street"! of Abilene that tho Andrew Ur-
ban well had blown Itself in nnd wns
a real gusher. Soon the excitement
became general nnd tho highway lead-
ing to Potosl wns lined with cars hur
rying to the scene of tho test.
Many people went cut to see what
was bcliovcd to be Abiione's first real
oil wolt and tho enthusiasm ot tho
crowd increased with the numbers.
Women had their handkerchiefs dip-
ped Into the golden fluid as It bubbled
up over the top and ran off from tho
well and old Minors hit each other on
the back and said: "Man that looks like
a sure enough oil well."
Tho first oil begnn showing nt 4
o'clock or about the timo tho drillers
closed down work and capped tho fl-
inch plpo. At that tlmo thoro wero
several visitors at the well from Abl-
lono. Among them being Honry James
Jinks McGeo and Rev. J. E. Carpen-
ter. Dr. Carpenter who is nn experi-
enced geologist and oil observer said
that the flow had constantly In-
creased from that hour.
Tho oil Is coming from tho Ander
son sand which was found nt a depth
of 1.800 foot and Is forcing its way up
through the 5 and G-lnch casing. Dr.
Carpenter estimated that tho flow
amounted to twenty to twenty-five bar
rels at 7 p. m. when n reportor for
this paper visited the well and witness
ed tho c.ll (lowing out at tho top nnd
running off in a ditch from tho well.
Tho oil grades hlgli and Is snld to bo
42 per cent gasoline ""
At 8 o'clock Saturday afternoon Rev.
Carpenter estimated that tho flow had
increased until in his estimation the
well was showing for nt least sixty
barrols ner day.
Should tho present flow contlnuo tC
will mean that other test's will be bo-
gun nt onco nnd that Anderson No. 1
will bo cleaned out nnt shot when It
Is boliovcd that larger production will
result.
