gate and Inspect the work being done
on the Spencer railroad and stateB
that about 2 1-4 miles Is graded and
arrangements are being made to trans-
fer the forco to tho now town oTRaw-
llngs and begin active work there. Tho
grado as made Is pronounced an ex-
cellent one and tho people of Robert
Lee and vicinity aro very enthusias-
tic over prospects of tho early comple-
tion of the road.
The bonus Is now due from cltlzons
of Robert Lee and Coko county and tho
report Is that this will be paid prompt-
ly thus enabling Col. Spencer to pro-
coed with nil grade work without In-
terruption. Dr. March Is favorably
Impressed with tho propject of Col.
Spencer and shares tho opinion hereto-
fore expressed by the Press-News that
tho road Is a certainty San Angelo
Pross-Nows.

was the death of the daughter of Mrs.
Wessendoff tho landlady and the oth-
er tho fatal burning of Mrs. J. Vy
Shanks wlfo pf a jeweler.
About 1 o'clock this morning a mos-
quito bar over tho bed In tho room
occupied by Mr. nnd Mrs. Shanks bo-
came ignited from a gasoline stoveand
before the Bleeping occupants weTe
aroused the flames had enveloped the
bed. Mrs. Shanks rushed to the door
and fell unconscious while trying to
unlock It Mr. Shanks meanwhile tear-
ing awny her burning clothing asd
throwing comforts ever her to smother
the flumes. In attempting to reectw
Ker his hatids were badly burned aad
both were taken to the fcoapltat where
Mrs Shanks rovlved but died at ll
o'clock today. -
Air and Mrs. Shanks came to Gal-
veston' recently from Eureka Cal.
