Bon drove his Simplex 318 miles to vie- J
tory today over tho Merrlmac valley
circuit ahd left trailing behind or out
of commission sixteen opier aspirants
for tho Lowell trophy in the second
national stock chasls race. Robertson
maintained a Bpeed in the flvo hours
fifty-two minutes and one and two- j
fifths seconds of 54.2 miles an hour
which waB six-tenths better than the
average mado by Lewis Strang the
winner of last year's race. j
At tho outBet Chevrolet set the pace
and before his. accident succeeded in
making two rounds 21-2 miles In
twenty-one minutes nd fourteen sec-
onds or better than a mile a minute
nnrincr Robertson's pause of seven
minutes in the twentieth lap Grant
pulled up until the difference Between
.them was ouo minute and'one second.
Robertson put up power and tore off
like a deer before the hunting pack.
On the twenty-seventh lap he was
compelled to slow down for minor de-
fects and Grant soared out ahead and
secured a lead of nearly four minutes.
The Journey was ending and it seemed
impossible for the .Bost'onlan to .loBe
but the hand of fortune tipped Grant
into a ditch and after that Robertson
was never challenged. In the race to-
day the winner gathered.ln $1000.
The second third and fourth to fin-
ish divided $1000 more In prize money.
