Edmonton Australia Jan. 10. The
legislature of Alberta assembled for
Its third aeaslon today and waa open
ed with the customary formalities.
The session Is expected to be a busy
and Important one. Mining laws will
occupy a prominent place on the leg-
islative program. Among the meas-
ures that will be Introduced Is one
providing for a legal working day of
eight hours. A more careful Inflec-
tion and regulation of the mines and
compensation to miners In case of In-
Jury or death are also sought
The extcoslon of the rural telephone
system Is another matter that will be
brought up. The province already
has &0 ni!1.s of rural telephone lines
In successful operation. Measures will
alo be 1aken for pushing to comple-
tion the new parliament building in
this city.

United States Senator John N. Gearln
and other men of prominence are an-
nounced to apeak at a mass meelng
of citizens held tonight for the pur-
pose of consldring the subject of Asia-
atlc exclusion. The meeting had been
arranged by the Asiatic Exclusion
League an organization recently form-
ed by the local trades unions and
having for Ita chief object the ex-
clusion from the United States of the

ASSOCIATION
Washington. Jan. 10. The annual
meeting sjf the Board of National Ri-
fle Association la in session here with
an attendance representing a majority
of the states. The association aims
to promote rifle practice in the mili-
tia organizations and in schools and
colleges. Among those loattendance
are the adjutant-generals of a num-
ber of states who will later go to
Boston to attend the meeting of the
National Guard Association of the
United States.
