CITY COUNCIL MEETING.
The city council met In special aes-
alon at 3 o'clock thla afternoon to
open the blda for the construction of
the new city hall. There being but
One bid filed It waa not opened as the
council was not wlUIng to award the
contract without competitive bids.

COLORED TEACHERS INSTITUTE.
The Brazos county Colored Teach-
ers Institute closed October IDth with
thirty-nine teachers present.
The program was well executed and
much Interest was manifested by all
The Brazos county teachers are
awakening to the responsibilities rest-
ing upon them and more enthusiasm
was witnessed than ever before.
Among the distinguished vlsltora
were: Reva. II. A. Wells Waco; IL W.
I-ee. Terrell; and II. W. Jackson thla
city.
One of the most Important features
of the Institute was an address by
SupL W. C. Lawaon. to whom the
teachers of Brazos county feel great-
ly indebted for hla words of advice.
The County Superintendent T. W.
Parker has always looked well for the
Interest of his teachers and through-

ty co-operation.

Saturday were the games between
Haskell Indians and Varsity at Dallas
and Baylor and T. C. U. at Waco. At
Dallas Haekell defeated Varsity aeore
12 to 11. At Waco T. C. U. defeated
Baylor score 9 to 0.
