the moat charming cordiality and In
formality and the occasion waa one
which will linger in the minds of the
assembled guests (or Its true-hearted
hospitality.
The lovely lawn with Its back-
ground of flowers and shrubbery Iti
smooth stretch of velvety green was
brilliantly lighted by electric globes
and formed a picturesque setting for
the assembling of friends. Potted
oleanders In the various rich colors
together with stately palms were
used with artistic effect In making
the environment more beautiful
The spacious veranda was convert-
ed Into an Ideal reception room and
here President and Mrs. Blasetl
Colonel and Mrs. Ousley Mrs. Sarah
Blwell. MUa Mary Terrell of Nava-
sota and Miss Claire Ousley received
the callers giving esch a most hearty
welcome.
Two tables placed on the lawn be-
neath the wide spreading branches
of elm trees held crystal punch bowls
presided over by Missea Louise Cllne.

contents all during the evening.
The elegant rooms were beautifully
adorned for the occasion with a pro-
fusion of lovely blossoms snd foliage
plants.
The dining room with Its hand-
some furnishings waa filled with the
beauty of Shasta dalalea held In
brasa receptacles on sideboard and
banking the mantel shelf. The table
overlaid with lace held In the center
a large brass basket filled with the
exquisite daisies the hsndle tied
with white mallne. At the corners
were colonial crystal holders bowed
with white mallne that hold unshaded
white tapers. Amid these charming
environments the guests were served
a delicious course of brick cream and
angel cake.
A Mexican orchestra sested on the
veranda discoursed a splendidly ren-
dered program of music which was
much enjoyed during the evening. (

Compliments Bride-elect
A charming recognition waa given
on Wednesday morning of the ap-
proaching marriage of Miss Blanche
Buchanan to Mr. Edward McAdams
by Mrs. J. Webb Howell who enter-
tained with a porch party and lunch-
eon in compliment to the bride-elect
and those officiating at her wedding.
Tellow color tonea were favored
for the home embellishment and
Shasta dulsles were the chosen blos-
soms being utilized throughout the
reception suite of the spacious and
hospitable home. The blossoms were
clustered In bowls and vasea with
maiden hair foliage.
The porch waa made cool and In-
viting by the use of awnings porch
furniture and the artistic arrange-
ment of many baskets of marguerites
ferns forming a background of beau-
ty and In this pleasant environment
the time passed happily In social
pleasantries the hour affording a de-
lightful opportunity of meeting the
honoree before her marriage.
The yellow and white tonea were
further emphasized In the decoration
and appointment of the luncheon ta-
ble placed In the dining room the
large circular table of Flemish oak
presenting a wonderfully pretty pic-
ture beneath the softly lighted elec-
trolier. An exquisite luce luncheon set
formed the basis with a large basket
of Shasta daisies the handle finished
with a bow of yellow mallne adorn
ing the center. Cryatal candlestick
held yellow tapers with yellow
shades. A white aatin bridal slipper
at each plate held mints. The places
were Indicated In a delightful fashion
by hand-tinted cards to simulate an
engagement ring held by Cupid and
to these fana In the yellow shades
were attached by yellow ribbon bows.
Five courses were served the
splendid menu conforming to color
requirement throughout wherever It
waa possible.
Following the luncheon the guests
spent a short social visit on the
porch where added pleasure wss
given by Mis Kuth Friley who gave
several well rendered piano aelec-
lions which wss much enjoyed.

Friday Club-
Ideal In Ita beauty and charming
simplicity the forty-two party given
yesterdsy afternoon by Mrs. C. N.
Ousley at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
J. S. Doane complimenting the Fri
day Club brought together a large
number of the members In a delight-
fully Informal way.
This handsome home waa radiantly
beautiful In floral dress for the event.
In the reception hall nasturtluma In
their rich yellow and red shadea fill-
ed pretty wicker baskets and bowls
and dainty (erna were In charming
evidence.
The pink color motif waa featured
throughout the hospitality and the
sweet peas were the flowers utilized
giving charmingly graceful floral
touchea.
The tallies featured hand-painted
sprays of sweet peaa and were fash-
ioned like folders and as each game
waa won a dainty blossom waa in-
serted. Six-handed forty-two formed the
pleaaant diversion of the afternoon
and during the progress of the games
fruit punch waa aerved.
An ice course of refreshments
served with angel cake formed the
concluding feature of the charming
event and the mints served accen-
tuated the chosen colorings.

A brilliant society function of
Thursday waa the afternoon with
Miss Ruth Boatwright from 4:30 to
6: JO.
This wss a charming courtesy ex-
tended to the hostess' house party
and a targe number of callers avail-
ed themselves of the opportunity of
meeting the honoreea who were

The dining room featured rich hues
in the sweet pea the light red deep
ening Into the darker which waa ef-
lectlve Indeed against the furnishings
of the room. An exquisite doth of
cluny lace overlaid the table. In the
middle of which rested a large wicker
tasket filled with lovely sweet peas
the hsndle finished with red maline.
The blooms were encircled by crystal
candlesticks with tapers capped by
red ailken shades the color motif
also finding reflection in the mlntr
served from crystal bankets. A de-
licious course of strawberry brick
ream and angel food cake waa aerv
ed. Receiving the guests In this
room were Mesdames W. C. Davis.

In the library yellow tonea were
observed with quantities of Shasta
daisies the effective arrangement
throughout the room giving a hand
some floral touch to the environment.

In thla bower of beauty.
This hospitality waa replete with
grace and charm always present at
the affairs given In this home and
the hostess waa many times assured
of this fact by the guest when the

On Monday afternoon the Ladles'
Aid Socioty of the First Baptist
Church announced a "tea hours' at
the home of the president. Mrs. E. II.
Astin. from & until 7 o'clock the In
vlted guests Including the varloua
women's and young ladles' societies
of the different churches.
Distinctly social waa thla happy
gathering of Christian enthusiaata
emphasizing In unmistakable manner
the spirit of gat-togetherness which
the president Mrs. Astln sought and
foresaw when she proposed the fed
eration of the societies for a closer
welding of the ties of Christian love
and neighborly helpfulnesa and
which she haa helped to carry to a
successful culmination.
Flowers of the season's offering
found place In the reception suite.
Sweet peaa. nasturtiums and roses
were lavlahiy arranged in dainty
holders. Potted ferns made a soft
green background for the beautiful
array of blossom and quite aa good
a setting for the pretty frocks worn
by the brilliant asaemblage.
The dining room table waa exqut
sitely adorned with aweet peaa ar-
ranged in a mound at the baae of a
punch bowl which formed the central
embellishment. A bevy of bright
young girls presided passing the
beverage aerved with sandwiches.
Mrs. P. S. Park whose manner Is
always pleasing gave a toaat of wel-
come to the guests her well chosen
words being favorably received by
all. The presidents of the various
societies responded In appropriate
words befitting the occasion.
A special feature of the affair en
hancing Ita pleasure consisted of a
well rendered program of music con-
tributed by Mr. Urkln Rogers.
Picture Show Party
The picture show party given Tues
day afternoon by Mrs. W. F. Glbbs
to compliment her Sunday school
class of the First Methodist Church.
proved a very happy Inspiration on
the part of the hostess the enjoy
ment of which waa fully realized by
all In attendance.
The participants assembled on the
Carnegie Library lawn and were
taken soon after to the Dixie Theatre
where a highly Interesting program
proved entertaining.
The afternoon's pleasures were
concluded when the guests were in-
vited lo Holmes' cream parlor where
they were treated to a course of
cream and cake.

Much interest haa been centered
In the marriage of Mlsa Annie Ie
Ellis and Mr. John Newton which
was celebrated Wednesday at the
home of the bride'a parents at Lib
erty.
The marriage waa of a quiet na
ture only relatives and a very few
close frienda being present the serv-
ice being performed smid a floral
adornment of summer bloasoms and
liotted ferns.
The bride was a atudent at Bryan
Baptist Academy a couple of years.
snd It waa during this time she met
the groom and passing the atage of
general Interest the friendship de-
veloped In that of mutual love. The
bride haa frequently visited In Bryan
as she haa already by her unusual
sweetness and charm of manner won
the love of many friends.
The groom was born and reared in
Bryan and Is the son of Mrs. I. II.
Newton. He Is a young man of steady
and exemplary hablta and haa a host
of loyal frienda.
Mr. and Mrs. Newton are visiting
the host's mother after which they
will go to Beau; ont to reside.
Celebrated Fourth Birthday-
Little Miss Julia Belle Graham
dulnty little daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
DeWItt Graham celebrated her at-
tainment of the age of four years by
bidding her friends to observe her
birthday Tuesday afternoon at the
home of her parents.
The happy children romped on the
lawn In many delightful games dear
to the beans of little folks. A pea-
nut hunt In the grass provoked much
laughter and suitable trophies were
given to those finding the largest
number of peanuts.
The concluding pleasure waa a
feast of Ice cream confections snd
cske which was served on the
smooth green lawn and during this
period the large birthday cake sur
mounted by four yellow and white
randies and wreathed in dalalea. waa
cut amidst much merriment.

silken baga were filled with white
mlnta and tied with yellow ribbons
The personnel Included eighty seven
of the friends of the charming little
hostess of the afternoon.
Plane and Voice Recital
The recital given Friday morning
at Carnegie Hall when Mr. It. W.
Reed presented two ot hla advanced
puplla Mlaaea Annie Belle Batte In
piano and Florine Batte In voice
was a decided success both from a
point of attendance and from the
merit of the program.
The hall waa filled with friends
snd acquaintances of these sweet
young girls who have been reared
among a host of loving frienda In
Bryan who came to ahow their in
terest and appreciation of their tal
ents.
The stage decorations greatly en
hanced the beauty of the Interior a
profusion of ferna and dainty Mob
soma forming a most artistic set tin
for the young musicians.
Both young ladles were quite at
ease and graceful In manner and
among the numbers glen It is quite
difficult to select one to compliment
above another it being largely a mat
ter of Individual taste.
The aonga aung by Mlsa Florine
were unuaually well rendered. Her
breathing waa good her notea were
dear and eaay and It waa a subject
of remark how distinct was her enun
ciation. Alt her numbers were Im
mensely enjoyable the selections be
ing peculiarly adapted to her atyle
and voice.
Mlaa Annie Belle haa a fine poise
at the piano. Her technique Is fault-
less her phrasing la beautiful her
tone prodactlona charm with their
natural beauty and withal her musi
cal feeling touches and softens to an
unusual degree.
The entire program was an appre
ciated pleasure and -waa rendered In
a way creditable to the young ladles
and to their tescher.
