CoIIuko Tuesday nrtcrnoon turned the
tnblcx on Simtnonu Collco )n tlio ec.
ond pnine of tho West Tc.xns Colle.
Klatc li'iiKUi! baseball season unit won
by the decidedly one-sided score of
JC to 2. Tlio opening game of the
season was won by Simmons Monday
afternoon by the score of 12 to 3.
Tuesday's game was n walk over
from tho very outset and SlmmoiiB
was never sufficiently able to rally at
any stage In tho contest to pet any-
where near Howard t'ayne's lend.
which was gnLncd early and main-
tained with little trouble throughout
the entertainment. Decidedly better
was the Held work of Howard Payne
Tuosday over Monday's game and the
class of play they out up with Wooden
on the mound proved far superior to
that f tho home team. Krrors by the
Simmons team combined with ina-
bility to hit effectively gave Howard
Payne an easy victory yesterday.
Howard i'ayno got off with a ruBh
scoring one man in the initial stage
and thereby putting the Simmons team
somewhat in the air just as the Sim-
mons men did their opponents In
Monday's game by scoring four men
In the first inning. Simmons was able
to get but one mnn on base In tho first
Steadily Howard Payne continued
to pile up scores three coming In the
second one in the fourth three in
the fifth two in the sixth one in the
eighth and to cap the climax five
men crossed home plate for Howard
Payne in the ninth.
SimmOUB was able to rally only to
tho extent of two scores these coming
in the eighth. Wooden pitched great
bull letting the Simmons team down
with hut one clean hit.
Tuesday's game was something ot
a surprise to every one. as Slmmonp
walked away With the big ond of the
score In such an easy and comfortn
ble manner on the da before hav-
ing little trouble in hitting the How-
ard Payne pitcher. VeBtordny. how-
ever just the reverse was true How-
ard Payne finding the Simmons pitch
er with no trouble whatever while
tho Simmons team could scarcely tlnu
tho H. P. 0. mound artist at alt. Ills
tor. who Is a south paw fulled to
serve ui such balls as Compere on
tho day before for SlmmonB but rath-
er Ills offerings were just to the lik-
ing of the visitors. The fielding of thc
Infield of Simmons was decidedly be
low the standard of Howard Payne
though the Simmons outfield madi
several pretty catches and their work
Is ccrtulnly to be commended. Tlm
the Simmons team needs nt least bcv.
eral weeks of nractice no one can
deny.
So far this season however the
team haB done us well as any hsjv
ing won one game and lost one their
percentage in the West Texas league
being 500. Howard I'ayno team I
scheduled for two games with Stnm
ford College today and Thursday and
following those two games with Itrlt-
