father's grist mill a few miles from

CROCKETT Nov. 18. The city coun
ell of Crockett has ordered an election 4
for the purpose of selecting ia succes-
sor to former .Mayor C. M. Newton. In
August Mr. Newton asked for a two
week's leave of absence to tour the
North and since then has not been seen
or heard of.

son; adopted son of S. E. Scott shot
himself through the right foot while

BELTON Nov. 18. Dr. J. H. Lassl-
ter was found In a dying condition In
his cow lot Tho doctor had gone out
to milk and being absent longer than
usual his daughter went out to hunt
for him and found him Just a momen
berore he expired. Heart failure was
assigned as tho cause of death

a collision with the policemen at the
corner followed. Sergeant Brockman
and Policeman Dalton received painful
wounds from flying bricks but they
and their four companions managed to
arrest five of tho leaders of the mob
and get the reserves to the scene. Only
a liberal display of pistols and f jee use
of i clubs by the reserves broke up the
demonstration which was fast fcecom-

forbidding any more parades
ThlB'was the third day of the strike
and the company operated about one-;
fourth of the usual number of cars
which" were meagerly patronized. Serv-
ice was suspended at nightfall.
