At a meeting of the Association Fri-
day night the 13th January 1911 ref-
erence to which has been heretofore
publicly referred to the following cjlp
ping froni. the Southwest Retallerr a
weekly paper in tho Interest of the
Retail Merchants Association was read
before the Association and so enthu-
siastically! endorsed . that the Secreta-
ry was directed to have same repro-
duced in our daily papers. It Is as
follows r
"More and more we are convinced
that what this country most needs is
a religion or training that win make
a mnn pay his debts. Shoutipg docs
not settle accounts with God or man.
Often we want to bounce a fellow right
out -of church because ho went fishing
on Sunday but never Bay a word to the
pious scamp who never pavs his debts
and such people are doing the church
more barm than any lot of Sunday
desecrators.for there nre more of them
in the church. Reader arewe getting
close.to yo.i? Then lay down this pa-
per and go and pay up and you. can
read on .at ease. And don't you stop
paying becauso tho statute of limita-
tions excuses tho open accent which
you made for bread and meat. You
must pay it Jn cash or God will mako
you pay it by firo and brimstone. God

stakes placed thereon making it a
penal offense for violations thereof
and carrying an emergency clause.
Bo It ordained by the City Council of
tfie llty df Abilene:
Sec. 1 That it hnll be Unlawful
for any person to walk upon or to
ride or (irlvo any beast of burden auV
tomobile blciyele or vehicle upon or
acrosd any street alley sidewalk or
public bigaway within the city of Ab-
lleno which has been closed to traffic
under the authority of said city prov-
ided that all streets alleys sidewalks
and public highways so closed shall
bo properly barricaded and guarded.
Sec. 2. That it shall bo unlawful for
any person to interfere remove de-
face or dcairoy any barricades bar-
risters guards .signals lights or
stakes iilacoJ on any street alley or
public hlbhway under tho authority of
the City of Abilene provided that this
and the preccdlhg section shall not ap-
ply to pernons employed by tho City
or by its authority while engaged In
any work "r improvement on such
street .alley or publir. highway.
See 1. Any person violating the
provisions cf this ordinance shall bo
deemed aullty of a misdemeanor and
upon conviction thereof In the Corpo-
ration Cbtrt of the City of Abjlene
shall be flaod In any sum not loss than
One or more than One Hundred dol-
lars. Sec. 4. That this ordinance Bhall
take effect and he in force from and
after Us passage and publication as
provided by law.
