Bears prepared to break
loss record to Elgin Friday
BY KEITH GELTME1ER
Friday night the Bastrop
Bears travel to Elgin for
their first game of the *78
season. Bastrop has not won
this rivalry game in the last
three years, but many
people feel that this year the
Bears will give the Wildcats
a scare.
Elgin appears to have a
fairly young team this year.
The Wildcats will have
All-State running back Elroy
Falke at full strength. The

talented back missed most of
last year with knee prob
lems.
With the powerful running
of Falke and being moved to
a weaker district, the
Wildcats are predicted to
finish ahead of the others.
Elgin finished last season 8 2
in calss 23AA, but were
moved to District 25AA this
year. They replaced Bastrop,
who moved up to class AAA.
The Bears have new head
coach Dennis Gorka along
with some fine returning
lettermen from last year's
regional finalists team. One
senior who won't make the
Elgin game is quarterback
Keith Geltmeier. He ap
pears to be out for half of the
season with knee problems.
A talented Ricky Lincoln will
guide the Bear offense and
has shown good leadership
over the troops. All District
linemen Mark Henderson
and Donald Sirles are again
in fine form and are ready to
do some serious talking this
Friday in Elgin.

CONTEST
Friday's clash is, "if they
don't score, we're going . . .
because we're going score."
The Bears defense may very-
well have to carry them
through this game, and
might score more than the
offense if Elgin isn't careful
with the football, say Bear
players.
The secondary will be led
bv Steve Bird at rover this
year, enabling him to do
what he loves to do most
find the football and then go
get it (no matter who has it.)
The linebackers will have
Gary Jefferson and Thomas
Davis tackling anyone who
might seep through the
fabulous four down linemen.
Mark Henderson, Donald
Sirles, Keith Tuck and
Wilbert White are the
fabulous four and are even
more fabulous when you look
at their size, strength, and
speed. All four possess good
lateral pursuit and will make
a lot of tackles Friday.
Overall, the Bears will
probably open the season on
a winning note. Anything
can happen though and it
will depend on how the
pigskin bounces .. and how
far Elroy runs.
Extra points will be
im|M>rtant fur Bastrop, which
doesn't have the kicking
game at all compared to last
year. (Bastrop will probably
never have a kicking game
like last year's team.)
The i^ime starts at h p.m.
and will be a very exciting
contest. Both teams have a
promising season ahead of
them, so why miss this game
w hen you can <>ee two of the
better teams in the part ol
the county, say team
backers.

season tonight at Krhard

game just may be a repeat
performance, players hope.
In the past two years the

reputation for winning, and
this year shouldn't be any

Andy's Answers

Dear Andy; I recently
received a sort of newsletter
called "The Ruff Times" and
I understand from a friend
that you also got one in the
mail. I was wondering what
your opinion is concerning
Mr. Huffs prediction that in
two years we could expect a
depression even worse than
the great depression in 1929".'
John
Dear John; 1 don't know how
my name got on their
mailing list but 1 did receive
an introductory offer to the
Huff Times. In my Opinion
Mr Howard J Huff is just a
few years off in his
predict ion of a "full scale
depression in two years." I
expect a continued eseala
tion of retail prices in all
consumer ^'""is and conttn
ued demands for higher
wages over the next three to
four years By 19Kt 1 expect
a general falling apart of
governmental controls which
will be follow I'd by a
depression during which
time we will see something
just <th<ct of total rebellion
by the majority. I do not
expect it to happen by 1985.

Dear Andy.
How many people are
employed or work in Texas
St adiu m on a Dallas Cow boy
football game? Are these
people given free tickets'
And my last question, is how
do security guards know
who is authorized to i{o
where once inside the
stadium? reason 1 ask the
last question is because
there never seems to tw a
crowd on the playing field
during Cowlioy games as
I've noticed there are in
