Bears To Get Shoes Aug. 9
BASTROP - With the
football season more than
a month away. Bastrop
High School griddcrs will

when shoes are issued.
The Bears, who are en-
tering their first year in
AAA competition, will
get shoes and .socks,
but will not be able to
begin conditioning drills
until August 14.
Contact drills are per-
mitted after August 18
along with the issuing of
pads and helmets. Scrim-
mages with other schools
are permitted after Aug-
ust 24.
Bastrop's first regular
season game will be at
Elgin on Friday. Septem-
bers, at 8 p.m.
All high school athletes
must have a physical ex-
amination before begin-
ning practice for any
sport. Physical education
as a class, however, does
not require a physical.
The physical exam must
show that the examining
physiian does not exclude
the particular sport for
the student, ana applies
to all girls and boys in
high school sports.
The B1SD does not pay
for the physical examina-
tions and considers the
cost of the exam as
school from liability or
responsibility through a
statement signed by the
parent or student. Parents
may be asked to complete
an' insurance release
sheet, which must be on
file before a person can
participate in any sport
for the school.
The Bastrop Bears will
be playing for a new coach
in 1978. Paul Gorka.
Also, numerous improve-
ments are in progress on
the football stadium.
Male junior and senior
high atnletes may get
their physicals on August
8 starting at 4 p.m. at the
high school gymnasium.

Blinn Vocational Nurse
Alumni held their meeting
on July 13 at the Blinn
Student Center.
Mrs. Doris Schomberg
of the State Department of
human Resources of
Brenham gave an inter-
esting report on child
abuse. She said it was
very important that any-
one' who knows of children
that are abused by parent
or anyone should report
this to the State Depart-
ment of Human Resourc-
es immediately to protect
the child. The topic was
educational and inform-
ative. The Alumni
thanked Mrs. Schomberg
for taking her time to
also show films on some
cases of child abuse.

tary Betty Piazza. In the

dent Center on Aug. 10
at 7:30 p.m. This will be
the annual business meet-
ing. Election of officers
will be held. Also all
membership dues should
be paid at this meeting.
The 1978 Blinn Vocational
Nurses students are in-
vited as honored guests
Refreshments will be
served. All members are
to bring cookies.
ICA Barbecue Set
ELGIN — The Bastrop
County Independent Cat-
tlemen's Association will
sponsor a barbecue dinner
on Friday. August 18.
starting at 6 p.m. at the
Elgin Vt W Hall.
