Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Schneider
of Dallas have announced the en-
gagement and approaching mar-
riage of their daughter, Dawn
Yvonne, to Joe Ward Russell, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Russell
of Naples.
The couple will be married on
Dec. 1 at the Hampton Place Bap-
tist Church at Dallas.
The bride-elect is a graduate
of Sunset high school at Dallas
and attended North Texas State
College at Denton, The prospec-
tive groom is a graduate of Naples
high school and received his de-
gree at East Texas State Teachers
College at Commerce.
The announcement of the en-
gagement was made at a luncheon
held-at the Empire Room of the
Douglassville Man
Found Dead
Lonnie M. Granberry, 83-yeat
old retired farmer, was found
dead by a neighbor at his home
in Douglassville last Thursday aft-
ernoon.
Justice of the Peace W. G.
Gunn of Atlanta, who conducted
an inquest, said death resulted
from natural causes
"Mr. Granberry was born in
Georgia and had lived in Doug-
lassville for the past 70 years. He
was a retired farmer.
Funeral services were held at
3 p.m. Friday at the Douglassville
Baptist Church with the Rev. M.
O. Southerland officiating. Burial
was in the Douglassville cemetery.
Statler-Hilton Hotel at Dallas last
Saturday.
Mrs. Clarence Russell, Mrs.
Skeet Welch and Mrs. Ward Thig-
pen of Gilmer attended the lunch-
eon.

"How Plants Grow" at the Garden
Club meeting last Wednesday,
Oct. 17, at the home of Mrs. How-
ard Crump.
Co-hostesses were Mrs. Joe Ful-
cher and Mrs. B. J. Floyd.
The president, Mrs. C. J. Wise,
was in charge of the business
meeting. Mrs. Page Bennett was
welcomed as a new member and
Mrs. Morris Hill as a guest. Mrs.
H. W. McLeckie resigned as a
member.
A delicious dessert course was
served by the hostesses.

As Write-In
Jim Presley said Monday he
would be a write-in candidate for
re-election as constable of per-
cinct 4.
Presley said friends had urged
him to seek the office again and
he would make a door-to-door
campaign to solicit votes for the
Nov. 6 general election.
His opponent is Ivy Betts, who
was nominated in the first Demo-
cratic primary. He received 305
votes in the first primary to 252
for Presley, whose name was not
on the ballot.
Betts served in the office two
years ago but was beaten in seek-
ing his second term by Presley.
Presley was an announced can-
didate af.the first primary but
did not register for a place on the
ballot.
The general election ballot for
the Nov. 6 voting will carry a
column for write-in candidates.
Voters who favor a write-in
candidate may vote for him by
scratching out the name* of the
nominee on the ballot and writing
in the name of the candidate they
favor in the far right hand column
of the ballot.
One candidate for a statewide
office also is waging an intensive
write-in campaign. He is W. Lee
O'Daniel, who ran third in the
governor's race at the first Demo-
cratic primary.
Presley said he would make an
intensive campaign during the
last two weeks and try to see
every voter in the precinct.

Dies Wednesday
Mrs. Duckie Puckett, 65, of Bas-
sett, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday
at the home of her daughter, Mrs.
J. P. Martin, at Simms.
The funeral services were held
at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Sand
Hill Baptist Church. Burial was at
Sand Hill under the direction of
the Hanner Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband,
Frank D. Puckett of Bassett; two
daughters, Mrs. Martin and Mrs.
W. A. Linker of Winfield; two
sons, Jessie P. Puckett of Win-
field and Eddie Durham of Maud;
and 18 grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren.
DEMOCRATIC CAMPAIGN BUS
STOPS AT OMAHA
A van with campaigners for the
Democratic presidential nominees
stopped at Omaha Thursday of
last week.
Forty Omaha residents met the
bus and heard speeches by Con-
gressman Wright Patman of Tex-
arkaria and Bascom Perkins of
Mt. Pleasant.
Naples was not included on the
itinerary of the van

come the bride of James E. Day
in a double ring ceremony to be
read at the First Baptist Cnurch
here Saturday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m
The bride-elect is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Tommie W. Har-
rison of Naples and the prospec-
tive groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Dewey Day of New Boston.

Circle met at the American Legion
Hall last Thursday night for a
business meeting and to install of-
ficers.

Pink and Blue
Shower Given
For Mrs. Porter
Mrs. Richard Porter was the
honoree at a pink and blue show-
er Tuesday night, Oct. 23, at the
dining room of the David Gran-
berry Memorial hospital.
The hospital staff served as the
host for the shower.
The refreshment table was laid
with a white cloth and centered
with an arrangement of pink and
white roses in a low footed white
bowl.
A pink and blue decorated bas-
sinet filled with gifts was pre-
sented the honoree.
Punch and cakes were served
to the guests.
Those attending were Miss Vir-
ginia Randall, Miss Charlotte Ran-
dall, Mrs. Maddie Porter, Mrs.
