Food For Freedom
Production goals for food vitali-
ty needed in the war effort have
been revised upward in Cass Coun-
ty for families in •'mall farms and
ranches.who heretofore have been
limited for lack of livestock, ma-
chinery, and other productive fa-
cilities.
O. E. McGilvray, Chairman of
the U. S. Department of Agricul-
ture War Board in Cass County,
said that productive efficiency of
these small farmers and stockmen
is being increased by means of
Farm Security Administration
loans. This is one of the avenues
of attack on the food problem be-
ing developed in cooperation with
the USDA War Board.
"Many of the better-equiped,
commercial farmers have been pro-
ducing relatively efficiently," Mc-
Gilvray explained, but a vast sup-
ply of unused, or poorly used, pro-
ductive capacity exists on many
small farms.
"Loans are being made by the
Farm Security Administration for
food, seed, fertilizer, cows, hogs,
baby chicks, housing and equip-
ment to take care of livestock, and
facilities to increase crop produc-
tion," he said, "Farm laborers, ten
ants, small owner-cooperators, and
families making only part of their
living from the land may get these
loans.
"Pioduction goals on these farms
wore set higher than general goals
for the county because they have
farther to go toward relatively eff-
cient production." "Individual
goals for each producer will be set
as FSA loans are given," Mr. Mc-
Gilvray said. He urged low-income
farm tenants, sharecroppers, small
owner-operators and part-time far-
mers to take their problems to Jack
Pope, Rural Supervisor for FSA in
Cass County, after February 9
date of new loan program gets un-
der way. The FSA office is locat
ed in Linden, Texas.
Hare are some of the new goals
which have been announced for
small farmers in Cass County.
These figures are the per cent of in
crease over 1941 production:
Milk Production, 10% Produc-
tion, 20%; Egg Production, 20%;
Beef Production, 25%; (including
calves marketed) Poultry Produc-
tion, 10%.
Commodities other importance:
Corn, 2% acreage; Grain Sorgham,
8%. Peanuts Harvested (for all
purposes), 4,000 acres increase for
the county.
Mr. McGilvray further urged
The | that each family in Cass County
of 91 who can possibly do so plant a gar
den for home use this year.
consective sessions. Many persons
had definite parts on the program,
the entire talent of the school was
recruited from our own member-
ship here in Linden. The church
expressed a desire for this fine week
and its work not to conclude with
the calendar week just passed but
that the messages and motives will
be carried out in our lives through
the weeks to come. The Mer.ho-
dist people are looking forward to
the repeat "School of Missions"
next year.
Simplicity of topics to hold swayjin
the Methodist Church Sunday.
Rev. Kermit Kollingsworth an-
nounces his topics for Sunday Feb.
15th and gives the welcome ring to
to all who will come the Methodist
way and worship. The Sunday
moring topic at eleven o'clok hour
(by the clock and watch) will be
"LIGHT". The evening topic will
be "WALKING". The texts re-
spectively will be Matthew 5:14.
"Yc are the light of the world"
and I John 1:6-7, "If we say
we have fellowship with him,
and walk in darkness, we lie, and
do not the truth; but if we walk in
the light, as he is the light, we have
fellowship one with another, and
the blood of Jesus Christ his Son
cleanseth us from all sin." The
Gospel is such a simpie thing and
yet the application of the Simple
truths become very complex when
we try to relate them to our com-
plex world. Come and let us wor-
ship together.
