Paige Three-The Wylie News-Thursday, July 6, 1972
Beb's Blabbers
working day for
fours Truly begins
with dropping off Sir Boos
or Mr. Clint at Sissy's
with his dally quota
of cookies, and off to the
post office where the town
congregates around 8 a.m.
Mac, how are things
of Engl-

neers?"
"Did you hear Sarah Phi-
lips had further sur-
gery?" asks Billie Mills.
"Dee, what's
NTMWD?"
new at
"The latest report atMc-
Klnney, Melba. '
"What did you say trans-
pired at the City Council
meeting, Onelta? '
"Anything or anyone new
at the hospital, Flora."
Now, I ask you can you
think of a better place
to get the news than the
post office? Well, old
nosey can't.
Then off we go to the of-
fice - plug in the coffee
pot (first), turn on the
air conditioner, and turn
j®n and off lights. Then
Jt-pen the mall. It's nice
to receive notes in with
renewals , as well as it
is to get the personals.
Of course, we've con-
vinced ourselves that part
of the job is to look at
other newpapers. In the
McKlnney Examiner, we
noted that Jean Thomp-
son read with great inte-
rest our Editor Smith's
column on walking. In
fact, she enjoyed it
so much that she repeated
it - word for word, and
is following his*dvice.
She agrees with him that
this Is "Great!"
Then we take a peak at
the other paper and try
to f igure why B uddy Girn -
per 8 Allen American won
2nd place In the Texas
Press Association when
The News received no ho-
nors - - Then we rea-
lize thos forms are still
unfilled to enter and sit-
ting on our desk, but Buddy
is In for a close contest
soon - - when we get
the tlmel
Ralph Lemons came by
with a book for the li-
brary. No one was there.
Think we ought to take
them and charge a sala-
ry?
Mrs. Lillie Christopher
and Ed Woods came by
to tell of their trips -
hers to Springfield, Mo.
and his a 651 mile birth-
day excursion. She's 82
and he's 92 - - just a
couple of chickens!
After dabbing a little paste
on the paper off we went
to Piano to see what the
Star Courier knew and
on to Gibson's for a short
visit with Mr. Dew, mana-
ger of the Piano Gibson
store. He said he does
appreciate the Wylie
business. When you go
there, tell him we sent
you.
Back again we came by
the Bank. Barbara
Euabanks T"rner gets
prettier every day. And
Dorothy Garner got that
tan in Jamaica!
Jane Remer then tried for
one full hour to make me
beautiful, but settled for
a compliment that I had
a "beautiful natural
frost" to my hair. She's
a real diplomat!
I came back to type Pete's
Palavers (or Allen's Al-
ley) and was called by
Richard Parker to help
give him professional (?)
advice on an ad. He was
doing a good job but Pop
Clyde had hid the Hot
Point material.
On the way down there,
I passed Sarah and Manley
Fay Allen leaving in
separate cars and thev
almost collided with each
other.
Gary McGuire Is having
quite a sale at the Fac-
tory Fabrics. There went
part of my money. Then
to Glodene's. That poor
paycheck has a way of
getting "lost."
Passing by Hampton's
Cleaners, I noticed his
new "front." Fancy, isn't
it?
Back to the office and a
call to the post office.
Mrs. Walter Bellmyer had
phoned and ws the third
from Garland reporting no
paper last week. Mr. El-
dridge would check, said
Maxlne Williams.
Then off to get the boy.
DeeDee Ward had Pappy s
car and Pappy was on a
bike. Since I was by
the house, I might as well
get ice there instead of
buying it from John Pen-
dergrass. Then back to
the office and a crowded
desk. Would you believe
how much could be cram-
med into one desk drawer?
So out came the drawer!
And I began! Pete came in
and Connie Marrs told him
ofa reunion. Petp was a-
mazed that Earl S'orywas
outside - -heat and all!
Nora Smith brought pic-
tures of the first family
reunion in ten years.
For the umpteenth time
the phone rang! Mrs. E.L.
Sherrill said a newspaper
is dead if it has no ac-
tive phone or people didn't
come by. We are grateful
that we have no worries.
Some may say that this
day was uneventful. Floy
Gibson didn't get her pink
cadillac ... It didn't
snow . . . Chuck Elledge
didn't make a million dol-
lars And we didn't
get fired!
But when the boss passed
by at 4:50 p.m., the office
was closed 10 minutes
early, cause, as Pete put
it, He won't know we
