SUNDAY SCHOOL BASEBALL LEAGUE
Thirty-five to fifty years ago, baseball was truly
a local pastime. In the early thirties Wylie had
a most successful Sunday School league, composed
of teams from local churches and one team each
from Clear Lake and Murphy. They played a split
season which matched the first ana second half
winners against each other in a best two-out-of-
three playoff series. The competition was fierce
and the playoffs saw the rules a bit evaded when
the winners would import pros from the West
Texas, East Texas and Texas Leagues to help
their side. And to think It was a Sunday
School League, too HI

Bids Received
Bids were received and
opened last week by the
County Commissioners
Court on the proposed
enlargement of Collin
Memorial Hospital in
McKlnney. Seventeen
firms submitted bids on
either construction, eq-
uipment , or both.
C. W. Stafford Construc-
tion Co. of Sherman was
apparent low bidder for
general construction and
site work. Their bid was
$1,468,000 . ( The Staf-
ford firm presently has
the contract for the new
high school in Wylie.)
Various alternate com-
bination bids were rec-
eived on hospital equip-
ment and supplies.
On sterilizers and surg-
ical lights, American St-
erilizer Co. was the low
bidder. The American
Hospital Supply Co. bid
low in kitchen equip-
ment; and Otis Elevator
Co. was low on elevator
equipment.

ing school; and addition-
al parking area. The
program is being finan-
ced through acountywide
bond election approved

The project is part of
Postmaster General
Lawrence F. O'Brien's
program to make ZIP
Codes more accessible
to the mailing public and
thereby increase the use
of the codes in mailing
addresses.
In addition to the kit,
which is folded like a
closed accordian, a
separate card is being
delivered to remind
residents of the local
ZIP Code number.
"ZIP Code is necessary
all year round to
Increase the efficiency
of the postal service, '
Postmaster Eld ridge
said, "but it is more
important than ever
around the holiday
season. This year, the
Post Office Department
expects to handle well
over nine billion pieces
of mail during the
Christmas rush ZIP
Code will be a great help
in delivering that mail
accurately and on time."
The postal officials
reminded ZIP-A-LIST
users to print clearly
and to include their
return address'so that
the post office will know
where to deliver the
completed form. Last
year, thousands of
people throughout the
nation forgot to include
the return address and
their efforts to cooper-
ate In the project went
for naught, he said.
