in the Dallas News of yesterday:.
I "Porter A. Whaley secretary of the
Brownwood Chamber of Commerce
has accepted the secretaryship of the
i Wichita Falls Chamber of Commerce
and will enter upon his new duties-
February 1 It was learned yesterday
from Dallas men who went on the
trades excursion to Wichita Falls.
Mr. Whaley takes the place of B; F.
Johnson who resigned to enter the
oil business. He has been secretary
at Brownwood for about a year;'talr-
ing the place of E. E. Kirkpatrlck who
also entered the oil game and now
has his headquartera at Dallaa. Prior
;to this 3Ir. Whaley was .for several
years secretary of the Amarll.lo Board
of City Development. Mr. Whaley is
manager of the West Texa3 Chamber
of Commerce now being organized."
' Now . that the "cat is out o the
bag" fto to apeak it may bo stated
that Mr. Whaley's resignation was
: placed before a recent meeting of the
Board of Directors of the Brownwood
Chamber of Commerce and at that
time it was thought best to defer pub-
lic announcement for a few weeks
while. the directors were looking about
for an able man to succeed him. His
resignation was not generally known
here therefore and had been given
no publicity.
Mr. Whaley was urged to accept the
commercial work in Wichita Falls Im-
mediately following the resignation of
B. F Johnson who has gone into the
oil-business in the- Burkburnett field.
For a time the local secretary de'clia-
ed to consider the offer of the Wichita
Falls organization but the insistence
