Twentieth Century Club look forward
to (the "President's Day" entertain-
jment. and on this occasion Mrs. L. P.
Allison the retiring president and
j.Misjs Huby Longi the incoming prcs-
ideht were the honor guests.
I The house party was handsomely
gowned in evening attire and the
luuusing environment gave a . most
delighttnl effect. In the library en-
trance -were bowls and baskets of the
beautiful Texas Wild flowers which
were never more beautiful or
plentiful than - this year. The
club room was given the pink and blue
colpr note in which Texas blue bon-
nets and Indian pinks were utilized.
Baskets and other receptacles bore
the flowers which were effectively
placed. The punch table was centered
with a tall colonial basket tulle
draped handle overflowing with blue
bonnets while around the handsome
hand painted punch bowl were rows
of these pretty flowers so arranged
as !to form a veritable flower bed.
The receiving line -was composed of
the past presidents of Uie club who

music from tne Edison which was
presided over by Olm Canon straw-
berry ice cream and sandwiches were
passed. Miss Maiy Walker Miss Alice
Magee Miss Carrie Reaves Miss Ruth
Miller and Mrs. V. L. Joekel dispensed
and passed the daldCy refreshment-

The City Federation of Women's
Clubs met in regular monthly session
Thursday afternoon in the Federated
Club room Tho presence of a mere
qitprum was very conspicuous at this
time when a great many important
matters wore to bo brought before
the body.
Miss Sarah Clark chairman of the
recent Clean-Up campaign gave a very
encouraging report stating that many
loads of cafes and rubbish were clear-
ed from lots and tendered to rid the
ci(v of many unsightly places and oth-
erwise improved the- city's sanitation.

by a local -florist. A further report
was made that the city manager has
kindly consented to have the unsight-
ly weeds cleared from the Library
lawn and the work will begin as soon
as the weather will permit.
Communications from various suf-
frage leaders were read by tho presi-
dent Mrs. E. J. Miller who in turn
urged tho women to hear Miss Beve-

ernacle on woman suffrage on Friday
evening. .
The president was empowered to
appoint delegates to the Sixth District
Convention to be held in Eastland.
Mrs. Miller reported that she had
consulted with proper authorities ''in
regard to repairing tho auditorium of
the Library as a memorial to our
brave soldiers and sailors. This mat-
ter will necessarily be taken up with
hiphcr authorities. A Libiary com-
mittee is to be appointed by the pres-
ident. "One hundred members by next
meeting" was the slogan adopted and
a membership committee was appoint-
ed of Miss Noel Mrs. Ira W. Hall
Mrs. Jas. C. White Miss Suella Clark.
This committee will be assisted by
every member of the Federation
A communication was read in which
the members were urged to assist the
agitation for the" adoption of Mrs. I
Penrvbacker's Supplementary History
of Texas as one of the official text
books in Texas.

ed the resignation upon a very urgent
request from the president who by
her efficient and untiring work has
endeared herself to each and "every
member of the Federation. .The resig-
nation will be effective at the next
.meeting or as soon as a new president

The Daniel Baker Auxiliary met in

Mrs. C L Ewing the president con-
ducted the meeting. Mr. 11. C. Nearlng
director of music at Daniel Baker Col-

delightful and encouraging remarks

given by the students of Daniel Baker
college in the Daniel Baker Girls Dor-
mitory. Tho Woman's Auxiliary of the Cog-
gin Baptist church will meet .'Monday
afternoon at 3:30 o'clock in circles as
follows: Circle No. 1 will meet with
Mrs. W. J .Scott at 1219 Earl Avenue;

Miss Duncnn to Appear in Ilccltnl In
Brownwood.
Bculah Imogene Duncan is a native
Texan. At an early ugc she devoloped
her musical gifts. After graduating in
Baylor University she plaecd herself
under instruction of the best New
York teachers studying under Lilllam
Brechmin Gillespie and later under
America's mosfemralnent teacher Ed-
mund J Mycr. Her gifts were quickly
recognized and . she was engaged as a
soloist at the Crescent Avenue Pres-
byterian church later in the Episco-
pal church were she remainder for 3
years. Her voice is particuFarly adapt-
ed to recital work and she possesses a
splendid repertoire of German Ital-
ian French Russian and English
songs.
Miss Duncan will appear in recital
In Brownwood Tuesday evening in the
new City Hall Auditorium. She Is
coming here under the auspices of the
Daniel Baker Auxiliary vhich organi-
zation is fortunate in arranging an
engagement with this pleasing enter-

Epworth. League Social and Business
Meeting
The social and business meeting of
Thursday evening at the Hostess
House marked the first social gather-
ing of tlie members of the Epworth
Leaguo since the re-organization sev-
eral weeks ago.
The Hostess House which always of
fers delightful environment seemed
unusually delightful on this occasion.
Garden flowers were given prominent
placing. The four departments of the
League met for about forty minutes
discussions of the WorK. A social
hour followed the business when refreshments-
were Served and an hour
spent very enjoyable. About twenty
members were present the unfavor-
able weather causing the absence of a
large number of" the members. '

The following are two of the many
courtesies whjch were extended to
Mrs.. W. Coy Mcintosh and Mrs. Roy
H. Duncan upon their recent visit in
Abilene the guests of Mrs. H. N. Hick-
man: Visitors Complimented
Quite notable in a .week of marked
social gayety was the tea of Wednes-
day when Mrs. H. N. Hickman enter-
tained her calling llstj naming as hon-
orees !Mrs. Coy Mcintosh of Brown-
wood Mrs. R. H. Duncan of Waco and
Miss Mattyq Fearis of Enuis.
The calling list comes from scarcely
two years' residence and proves Mrs.
Hickman a charming addition to Abi-
lene's coterie or young matrons. In
the attractive rooms of her recently
remodeled' home1 guests were formally
received for the firstfim for response
to the invitations of Wednesday.
A home filled with rose beauty and
rose fragrance was Mrs. Hickman's
especial compliment to her guests
whilo at tho same time she herself
wns complimented by the presence of
so many and such perfect blossoms
since most of them had come through
the thoughtfulness of friends. Pink
and white were the favored colors for
tho party and vase after vase of these
gorgeous roses were placed through-
out the rooms where guests were re-
ceived. A special arrangement of
these dainty blossoms was made ia the
dining room from whose daintily ar-
ranged table cherry-1 ice was served
with chicken sandwiches mints and
olives. '

the piano enlivened the occasion.
