One Dime Pays a Month's Rent
Here is one of the five houses near May's Landing X. J. which are
rented for ten cents a month the record low rate in the United States.
Here's the explanation: Since 'lime immemorial" the families have occu-
pied these houses and no rent was c harped by the owner. Now a corpora-
tion has bought the lantl and to protect its title decided to charge a nominal
rent. "

ENFORCEMENT
LIS
HEAD OF LAW ENFORCEMENT DE
PART.MENT IS GTEST OF CITI-
ZENS AT LUNCHEON.
Adjutant General Barton of Austin
on his way to Amarillo his old home
for a few days rest and recreation.
stopped a few hours in Brownwood
Wednesday and at noon was a guest
at informal luncheon of the national
guard members of Brownwood and
also' of a number of business men who
took part in the function at the South-
ern Hotel.
In a brief address General Barton
took up the matter of the work of the
department and said it was the law-
enforcement arm of the State govern-
ment and that during the present year
many trying and puzzling . problems
had been presented and had in his
opinion been handled and solved in a
way and manner that should meet the
approbation of every person who be
lieved in the supremacy of law and of
law enforcement without regard to
race creed color or condition. This
was the view the department had tak-
en of the situation and this had been
the purpose of every move and every
act of the department. General Bar-
ton safd while there might be heard
the voice of criticism in certain quar
ters that this was true in regard .to all
periods where action of . decisive na-
ture was require'd and was in fact to
be expected.
Speaking further In regard to en
forcement of law the Adjuatnt Gen
eral declared that in his opinion there
Is entirely too much dodging of jury
service by the loading citizens of the
country. The busy man the active
man the man who doesn't want to be
bothered all seem to be seeking ex
cuses when called upon to sit on the
jury and tbo result Is that jury service
Is not what it. should be. Jury ser-
vice said General Barton is the luty
of every citizen and should not be
shifted from the shoulders of loading
citizens to the shoulders of others
merely because the man who offers ua
excuse doeB not want to scrvp.
