T AUSTIN. Dec "14. Texas normally
ie largest producer of pecans of any
state in the nation yrtll produce the
smallest crop this season in propor-
lion than any of the. pecan producing
states according to estimates of the
federal departniept of agriculture just
received here. The Texas pecan crop
will he hut sis; per cent of normal.
The federal report shows which is
more than forty per cent below the
five year average production.
The production last year was esti
mated at 45 per cent of a normal (100
per ient) crop while the average Tex-
as production for the five years from
3SI5 to 1S20 -was 47 per cent normal
Texas. however is not the onfo. largo
producing pecan state that will fall
short in production this year the re-
ports show. Oklahoma ranked sec-
ond in production will have hut 1)
per cent of a normal crop; Louisiana.
11 per cent; Arkansas 12 per cent
and Georgia. 22 per cent.
The quality of Texas nuts this year
has improved slightly federal author-
ities report. Last year's crop was
listed at SI per cent for quality and
this year's Is listed a S3 per cent.
